"Thank you so much. I really appreciate it." I say in a shaky voice. I can't breathe smoothly. I can barely breathe period.

"No problem, ma'am. Stick your head out the door if you need anything." The nurse says. He smiles before walking out.

I sit in the reclining chair and watch his chest heave up and down. The doctor said he's going to be fine but if the bullet was any closer to his lung he would have died. I swear doctors say that shit to you just to see the look on your face. Asshole. Just my luck. We sitting in the fanciest restaurant in New York and still get shot at. That's the shit that happens when 2 gang leaders are in the same public place. I don't know what he was thinking. This corny ass nigga couldn't just eat my pussy and keep it pushing. I do know one thing. I'm going to kill whoever did this to him.

"Hey..." The door creaks open and Daveed along with his fro pop into the room.

"Hey." I say exhausted.

"I came as soon as I heard. You're not hit are you?" He asks looking at my blood stained dress.

"No, this is his blood. It's so much of it. And everywhere." I say almost reliving the moment.

"Did you see who did it?" He says sitting on the edge of the bed.

"No. Not really. I was distracted." I say. "Fuck! Fuck this! Ugh!" I say standing up. I fight the tears that are making their way through.

"It's okay. We'll find them."

"No! I mean. That's not why I'm mad. I keep doing this shit to myself. I ruin everything for myself, why can't I just be happy?!" I say. "He wanted me to be happy."

"I don't know if I should be telling you this." Daveed starts to say. I look back at him. "He uh- he wrote some shit. Like uh- like a fucking vow."

"A vow? Like for a wedding?!" I ask.

"Yeah, he was jus going on and on about you. He knows things about you that you probably don't know about yourself." He laughs. "He was reading them to himself before the date and I walked in on him."

"Do you know what it said?"

"It said to never trust Daveed with a secret ever." Dave says. I rush over to his side.

"Dave." I say watching his eyes flutter.

"Lay. You aight?"

"Nigga, you are in a hospital bed. Don't worry about me." I laugh.

"How long have you been up?" Daveed asks.

"Just for when you walked in and aired my business out."

"Chill. You telling me if you saw pigs fly you wouldn't tell everyone you knew?"

"Not if that pig had a strap and didn't want me to tell people." Dave responds. I laugh.

"I'm gonna get something to eat. I'll be back." Daveed says leaving.

"Sooo, you not gone tell me what you wrote?"

"Mann, that nigga is trippin. I ain't write no vow."

"Yeah whatever."

"And what if it was a vow?"

"Well, I guess I'd have to catch up on mine." I smile.

"Really?"

"Nahh." I smirk. He sucks his teeth and pulls my arm towards himself.

"Lay wit me, baby." He says. I do as told and try to be mindful of his wounds. I tried to match his breathing as we silently enjoyed each other's company. He grabbed my left hand and started playing with my fingers.

"What are you doing, weirdo?" I ask with a little laugh.

"Trynna figure out yo ring size." He responds.

"You're a nut." I say sitting up.

"That's good. You gotta keep on moving, Dave." I say holding him up by his armpit. Daveed's on the other side of him trying to keep the door open as we enter the apartment. Dave had finally gotten clearance to leave the hospital after almost a week. He healed pretty fast but he still has a lot to go.

"Alright, bro. You good?" Daveed says sitting him on the couch. He and I plop into the chairs nearby exhausted.

"Yeah, thanks." Dave says adjusting his position.

"Well, I'm going to bed. Holla if you need me!" Daveed says once again leaving us alone.

"Why you all the way over there ma? Come sit wit me." Dave says.

"I don't wanna hurt you. Dave, you just got out the hospital..."

"Girl, you ain't gone hurt me by cuddling a little. I need some TLC if I'm gonna heal sooner."

"I guess..." I say and scoot next to him. I soon find comfort on his shoulder as he wraps him arm around my neck. "You scared me."

"Huh?"

"Ion know. You scared me. It was like you telling me you'll never go and there you are. Bleeding out in a fancy ass restaurant." I sigh.

"I told you I wasn't going nowhere and I meant that. I'm still here girl."

"I can't help but think it was a sign to take you more seriously." I say. Dave laughs and holds me closer.

"You should listen to that sign."

"You think so?" I ask. He nods his head smiling. "Me too." We sit there watching the random show that was on before we came home until Dave got a call. His phone was all the way in the kitchen so I got up to get it.

"Hello?"

"Who is this? Never mind. I assume you're with Dave. Let him know that I ain't kill him on purpose this time. And Layla? You're next, bitch." The woman says. She hangs up and anger courses through my body.

"Hey baby?"

"Yeah?"

"Where that girl Courtney live? Psycho bitch."

"Why?"

"Don't worry about it."
