Chapter 9 

When they arrived at the doctor’s later that day they sat in the waiting room waiting to be called “Emily Forest” the nurse called out, Mike and Emily went to go see her and the nurse set Emily down on a table waiting to be checked. “So is this your first child?” the nurse asked. “Yes” said Emily as she looked over at Mike. “You must be the father” “Correct” Mike said to the nurse. “Alright well I have some papers for you two to fill out and I will get the doctor here in a little while” the nurse said as she walked out the door. “I still can’t believe this Mikey” Emily said, her hand grabbing onto Mike’s. Mike gave her a smile as he filled out some of the papers. Just a little while later the doctor came in “Hello, I am Dr. Kalen Greoubrough but you can call me Dr. G” Emily and Mike looked at the doctor and gave him a welcoming smile. “So I heard this is your first child, are you excited?” Dr. G said as he was putting on gloves and turning on the ultrasound machine. “Well, we are nervous,” Emily said to the doctor. “Oh, I see. Well that is normal for new parents to be nervous the first time they are expecting” Dr. G said with a chuckle. Mike looked at Emily. He hasn't said anything since the nurse came into the room, he must be very scared something is wrong with their child. “Why don’t you lay here and roll up your shirt” Emily did just what the doctor told her to do, he put some gel on her stomach then put a probe around her so they could see the baby. “On that big screen in front of you is where you guys can get a good look at your child”

 Emily and Mike both held hands as they looked at the screen. Dr. G made a few checkups on the embryo, “It looks like you are 7 weeks along Emily, so I’m guessing your child will be born around mid-July to early August, but we can’t really tell until your next appointment” Emily just smiled at the screen when she realized her child is waiting to see the world. Mike looked at the screen too “It looks like an alien” he teased. Dr. G laughed at his comment, “Yes it does, but don’t worry it would look like a baby at around 20-25 weeks” Mike felt very happy. Dr. G decided to check the baby’s heartbeat, you could hear the thumps it made. They were strong and heavy. Finally the doctor was finished and handed tissues to Emily to clean the gel from her stomach, and left the room with Mike. At the registration desk the doctor handed Emily a diet and exercise plan to keep herself and the baby healthy. “Come back in about 3 weeks” Dr. G said, “Thank you” Emily and Mike said in unison.
