The flight from Manila, Philippines to Los Angeles, California is 15 hours and 7 minutes. I know, super long right? Well, thanks to my Papa's advices I came up with a plan to kill boredom and not tell stories to a very nice and old lady right next to me, because I don't really know how to start a conversation when it comes to old people like her.

From what I can sense and observe from her, she's the kind of grandmother who is very quiet and I think she's a shy teenager back in her old school days. Unlike my grandmother who always likes to tell stories to strangers she knows she'll be stuck with for a long time. Just like when I was taking my college entrance exam back when I was still on my senior year in high school. I forgot to give her the book she asked me to bring, at first I thought she was fuming mad at me, because what will she do for 4 hours straight? Luckily, she was accompanied by a mother whom I never met. It's a good thing they talked about colleges and politics and not me.

I sadly sighed I'm missing her already and it's only been an hour. "14 hours and 7 minutes left" I thought.

"What's wrong dear?" I snapped my head to her. Damn, that scared me a little.

"Oh, I'm sorry." She giggled and I just gave her a small smile.

"Nah, it's okay Miss...?" I trailed off

"Dorothy." She smiled at me.

"Dorothy...hmmm it's a little not...respectful. How about Lola Dorothy?" I grinned at her.

"Awww, such a kind and beautiful young lady and...Lola?." I blushed a little at her compliment

"Thank you." I mumbled loud enough for her to hear.

"Oh, uhm...Lola is a Tagalog term for granny or grandmother." I explained to her.

"Oh, that's great! I learned a new word today!" She nodded approvingly, liking the word I taught her.

"It's funny though, even when you're old you can still learn something that's new to your ears." I laughed after I said that.

"Yes, you're right dear. And I learned a good word too! Now, I know what I'm called here in the Philippines."

"It's still different though, there are different kinds of Tagalog here in the Philippines. I was born and raised in the big city so I didn't really know how to speak them."

"You're really beautiful. Tell me, are you Latina?" Completely ignoring what I told her. I, once again, blushed at her compliment. She really needs new eye glasses.

"La-latina? I don't really consider myself as Latina. From what I've just told you I'm a Filipino. Well, Filipina." She urged for me to continue.

"My father is a full blooded Filipino and my mother is American/Spanish. Although, my mama lives in Manila." She nodded and started another conversation. I guess she's not that shy, she's confident and she cuss! My grandmother rarely cuss, only when she's raging with anger.

I guess I did have to tell her stories, because we talked for hours. She told me so many things, she gave me life advices, she told me her life experiences and the best part of it is when we made fun of people here on the plane. I told her everything on why I was going to L.A and she told me why she went to Manila.

I also learned that she lives in San Luis Obispo, California. She just wants to stay here with her son and his family. She's so beautiful with gorgeous blue eyes and she carries a sweet, sweet aroma. Just like my Lola's scent. I miss her

I looked at my timer and we still have 10 more hours until we land. Wow, time flies by when you're having fun. I looked at her and I can tell that she's already tired.
