davina

it had been a week since cedric and i successfully brewed amortentia after curfew. the tension i felt that night has only grown since then.

cedric described his amortentia's smell as old parchment, lavender, and chocolate. the scent of his potion immediately spread a blush across my face when he described it. i didn't tell him that his potion's odor was similar to how people have described myself

my potion smelled like fire, crisp air, and home. i assumed that since his amortentia reflected how i smell, that mine smelled like him.

after we finished brewing our potions, we put them in small vials and took them with us.

he walked me back to my dormitory, the night air chilling as we walked through the open corridor. we took our time, stopping frequently, not wanting the night to end. it may have been the first day we met, but spending time with cedric felt different than anything i've ever experienced.

the first week of classes was fine. i had divination, care of magical creatures and herbology with hermione, which is a huge help. she has similar study habits to my own, so we get along great in class.

i have defense against the dark arts and charms with the slytherins, which is a double edged sword. on one hand, it's the only time i get to spend with blue now that her and blaise have gotten closer. on the other hand, i have to put up with malfoy and his minions. luckily he leaves me alone for the most part, but whenever blue speaks he makes a snide comment under his breath.

whatever time i don't spend in class, i spend studying in the library with hermione, roaming the castle with fred and george, or sitting in the courtyard with cedric.

my time with hermione is the most efficient, as we constantly quiz each other, helping each other to become the best witch possible.

my time with fred and george is mostly keeping them out of trouble, but they continue to attempt to rope me into one of their pranks. on our third day in the castle, we turned malfoy's hair fuschia. he was livid, and we spent the rest of the day watching his feeble attempts to reverse the prank.

my time with cedric is the most comfortable. we often sit under the tree in the courtyard. he either watches me read, playing with my hair, or we discuss quidditch. try outs for my house team were next week, so he, being hufflepuff seeker, was intent on giving me pointers to help me make chaser.

i couldn't quite describe the relationship i had developed with cedric. we were not romantically involved, it was too early for that, but the golden boy did enjoy flirting. however, it wasn't a strict friendship either. we were both, i've come to find out, very affectionate people. he would often play with my hair, and i would lean my head on his shoulder while reading.

spending time with cedric allowed me to forget the fact that blue had become distant. her time with blaise and the rest of slytherin had increased, while our time together had decreased.

today was a saturday, and i planned on spending the day on the quidditch training grounds with cedric, fred, george, and blue. we were all going to go over technique for tryouts. fred would teach blue, cedric would teach me, and george would observe and give pointers.

my plans quickly changed, however, when i walked onto the quidditch pitch to find not only blue, but blaise and malfoy. i become less excited for the day as they walk over to cedric and i.

we sit in silence, waiting for the twins to make their late appearance. once they arrive, we are all anything but quiet.

"what's malfoy doing here?" fred asks.

"yeah," george scoffs, "this is a private practice."

i look at blue, waiting for the answer, as i have no clue.

"well, um," she stutters, "blaise is trying out for the team too, and since malfoy is already on the team, i figured cedric could help train him. they're both seekers, ya know. and blaise wants to be a beater, so i figured the twins could help him out too."

i shake my head, "and who will train me then?"

"come on davina," she laughs, "you're the best one here, you don't need training. and let's be honest, how could cedric, a seeker, train a chaser?"

i roll my eyes, "that's not for you to decide blue! i needed more training before tryouts, you know how important this is to me!"

"calm down, you can train with blaise and the twins, it's not a big deal," blue explains.

"maybe instead of bringing your new friends along, you could have at least checked with me first. but no, i'm obviously not important enough to at least talk to about it first," i go off.

"woah, i wouldn't call us friends," malfoy replies.

"oh shove off malfoy," i turn back to blue, "you see, you'd rather bring him along, someone who has done nothing but make you miserable, than just have a fun practice with me, your best friend."

"blaise wouldn't come without malfoy," she frowns, "i was just trying to be nice."

"then blaise wouldn't have come!" i shout, "i understand you and him are friends or whatever you are now, but all you do is spend time with them now. when is the last time you and i have hung out. we've been here a week, and the only time we talk is during class."

"like you don't spend all your time with cedric, granger, and weasley!" she counters, "where's your initiative to hang out with me, huh? it can't be onesided davina."

"how can i ask you to hang out when as soon as class ends you rush off to the slytherin common room?"

she remains silent.

"merlin, can you not see that you've been ignoring me ever since we got here? i love you blue, i do. you're my best friend. but ever since blaise came along, it's like all you care about is impressing the slytherins now. why is what they think so important to you now?"

"maybe she's realized we are the superior house after all, and she wants to make up for lost time, hanging around with your lot," malfoy spits.

i wait for her to say something, anything to counter the claim draco has just made. but instead, she looks to the ground, ignoring the remark. it dawns on me that impressing them is now more important than defending me.

i scoff, "thanks for your utter silence blue, it really means a lot."

i turn, storming away from the field, choking back tears threatening to spill from my eyes. i make it into the open corridor leading to the castle interior, and turn the corner. i stand for a moment, blinking, hoping the burning in my eyes will subdue.

"vina, are you okay?" cedric asks, placing his hand on the small of my back.

"i'll be fine ced," i nod, "i just need time to process, i guess."

"well then," he smiles, "lets help you take your mind off of it, yeah?"

i nod, and he takes my hand, leading me into the castle.
