to say i was shocked by blue's confession was the biggest understatement of the term. sure, harry potter was a great guy and should be given a lot of credit, but blue and i were not extremely close with him. the extent of my friendship with the boy who lived was a few run ins with him, while with the twins.
however, while we were not talking, blue supposedly found a friendship with him. after buckbeak scratched malfoy, they began laughing about it. after that, blue developed a crush, and harry was obviously oblivious to it.
in the weeks following our conversation, she only became more interested in harry. she would spend every moment that she wasn't with me or in class with him. they became pretty good friends, and i was happy that blue was finally finding people who accepted her for who she is.
luckily, draco had spent most of his time avoiding blue and i, considering the fact that i punched him in the face. i assume he was scared that i would do it again, although i never knew him to be scared of anyone.
while blue was developing her friendship with harry, cedric and i continued to develop our relationship. with sirius black still at large, he was still extremely protective of me. although, now that we were dating, his protectiveness was at an all time high.
we mostly spent time in the ravenclaw common room, as golden boy was too hesitant to sneak me into the hufflepuff common room. anytime we weren't there we were in the library studying. i was helping him prepare for the OWLS, and he was helping me with the single class i was struggling with, herbology.
today was another trip to hogsmeade, so we were finally going to be able to spend time somewhere else again. while i still didn't have permission to go, fred and george were allowing harry and i, who also didn't have permission, to use the marauder's map again.
i was currently on my way to the great hall to find harry so we could find our way to the passageway. once i got there i saw cedric standing with his friends from hufflepuff. i walked over, not seeing harry yet, and wrapped my arms around his torso, waiting for him to turn around.
"well good morning love," he cooed, turning to face me.
i smile back up at him, "good morning."
he kisses the top of my forehead and pulls me into his side, causing his friends to make funny comments.
"ooo ced's got himself a girlfriend," one of them smirked.
"how'd you manage that diggory?"
"oh shove off," he chuckles, "turning back to me. will i see you at hogsmeade today?"
"of course," i smile, "i have to take every opportunity to break the rules safely. can't miss out on all the fun."
mcgonagall then calls for all the students going on the trip to meet at the entrance of the school, prompting cedric and i to part ways. he leans down, giving me a quick kiss on the lips. i tell him i will see him on the hill i met him at on our first hogsmeade trip, and he agrees.
after they all leave i quickly spot harry and walk over to where he is standing, nervously looking around. once i approach i tap his shoulder, "ready to go potter?"
"brilliant, you're here," he nods, "yeah, let's go."
we walk through the castle, avoiding any professor's who might grow suspicious of us. once we reach the passageway, harry gives me half of the invisibility cloak that i was unaware he had until a few weeks ago. once we reach the cellar of honeydukes i ditch my half of the cloak. i would continue using it, but i would rather spend my time apart from harry.
as i walk through hogsmeade i hear whispers of students. they all glance at me, and when i catch their eyes they quickly look away. i only figure out what they're all discussing when i overhear seamus finnegan talking to dean thomas.
"she's related to sirius black you know," he whispers, "i'd keep my distance, reckon she must be mental."
i storm up to him, standing directly between him and dean. his face flushes red and dean backs away.
"who are you talking about?"
"it's nothing," he stutters, "just something we heard."
"what did you hear?"
"just that you were... uh- related to sirius black," he stammers, "we didn't hear how you were related to him, but just that you were."
a million questions swarm through my brain, "what are you on about? where'd you hear this?"
"well lavender told us, and she heard it from pansy parkinson, who i think heard it from malfoy," dean explains.
i stomp away from them, furious and confused. if i was related to sirius black i would surely know it. i knew every wizard and witch on my mother's side. and she would have definitely told me if my father was related to a mass murderer.
i march my way through hogsmeade, asking every student i pass where malfoy is. eventually i pass the hill where cedric and i are supposed to meet. i glance up, seeing him fiddling his fingers waiting for me. i'm tempted to join him, but i don't want him involved in all of these rumors.
once i find malfoy i grab him by the collar like i did once before, and he is taken completely by surprise.
"what in the bloody hell are you doing, you filthy blood traitor?" he spits at me, "my father will hear about this."
"why are you spreading rumors about me malfoy?" i spit, "didn't i warn you to leave me be?"
"oh but darling," he smirks, "they're not rumors if they're true."
"you know nothing, you are seriously delusional. i am not related to sirius black," i shout.
"oh but that's not what the ministry thinks," he counters, "you see, my father was discussing the matter with the minister himself. said your mum went to him when the murderer escaped azkaban and confessed that you were his daughter. said she wanted to keep you safe at all costs. i assume you and potter are the reason we have dementors at hogwarts. the lunatic is probably after the two of you."
"you're lying," i mutter, "that can't be true, she would have told me."
"how do you think she got herself cursed?" he smiles, "she went looking for answers about your maniac father and fell in with the wrong sort."
"shut the hell up malfoy, i'm warning you," i growl, "if you continue, not even your father will be able to stop me from hexing you."
"oh look, the derangement has obviously set in," he chuckles, "if you're so sure i'm lying, ask your precious defense against the dark arts professor."
"what are you on about?" i spit.
"oh, professor lupin was best friends with your father in their time here, didn't you know?" he smirks, "him and potter would run around with the maniac all the time."
with that i dropped malfoy on his arse and turned to find professor lupin, eager to know if there was any truth to malfoy's tale.
