once we arrive at hogwarts, i wave goodbye to hermione, ron, and harry, blue and i racing for the great hall. we've always sat at the ravenclaw table for the start of term feast. this is mostly because i don't have any friends in my house, and she doesn't have anyone worth talking to in hers.

this year, it's slightly different as i've come to find out, when blaise comes over to talk to blue, which leads to us taking a seat at the slytherin table. i silently curse myself as i watch malfoy and his friends come to sit next to us. blue seems to be okay with sitting here, as blaise and her are talking to each other.

i look around the great hall as students shuffle in and sit at their respective tables. we're all waiting on the first years to arrive, so we can see which will become new additions to our houses.

"hey blue," i mutter, "i'm going to head over to the ravenclaw table, okay?"

"aw, okay," blue nods, "i'll probably head straight to the common room afterwards, so i'll see you tomorrow yeah?"

i nod, standing up and walking quickly to my table, ready to put my head down and disappear. i'm dozing off, silently saying incantations to spells i reviewed over the summer in my head. all i want at this point is to go back to my common room and go to sleep, ready for my classes tomorrow.

"is this seat taken?" a voice asks me, causing me to jump slightly.

i look up to see cedric, the boy i bumped into on the train, and scoot over slightly.

"no," i shake my head, "it's just me."

"good," he smiles, taking the seat next to me.

"shouldn't you be sitting with the hufflepuffs, golden boy?"

"golden boy?" he chuckles, "where'd you get that?"

i point at the prefect's badge on his chest, raising my eyebrows at him.

"oh come on," he says, "being a prefect does not make me a golden boy."

"cedric" i laugh, "did you ever sneak out past curfew last year at all?"

he remains quiet, and i nod my head. he's proven my point.

we both laugh for a moment, and then professor mcgonagall enters with the first years. we watch as they enter the great hall, excitement in their eyes. they all look thrilled to begin their year at hogwarts, and i don't blame them.

i turn to see cedric's reaction, and it seems to be the same as mine. we are both basking in the familiar feeling of the first-years, happy to see another group of witches and wizards call hogwarts their home.

"well that's my cue," he frowns, standing up.

"wait," i call, "where are you going."

"i'm a golden boy, remember," he smirks, "i have to lead the first year hufflepuffs to the dormitory with head boy and head girl."

i nod, "see you around ced."

he smiles, walking over to the table. he sits down next to a few hufflepuff boys, and they all greet him with hugs and pats on the back. i shake off my glance at him, turning my attention to the first years once more.

after they have all been sorted, mcgonagall hands out the older student's class schedules.

once the feast was finished, we were dismissed to our common rooms by professor dumbledore. i stand up slowly, gathering my timetable, and look around. just like blue said, she's already left, most likely walking to the slytherin common room with blaise. i sigh, and start to walk out of the great hall.

i walk a little slower than the rest of the students, looking around and taking in all of hogwarts. i wave to a few ghosts and paintings, chatting with them for a moment.

"you seem a bit lost," cedric calls, causing me to turn around.

"i'm not lost," i smile, "just, taking it all in, i guess."

"i know what you mean, this place still amazes me sometimes."

we both smile, and a blush spreads across my cheeks as i look into his gray eyes. we both stand in silence for a few moments before i speak up.

"want to do something slightly against the rules?" i smirk, "break your golden boy streak?"

"on the first night?" he questions, "you're bold."

"oh come on. it will be fun. you can finally stay out past curfew, and if anyone asks, you were escorting me back to my dormitory because i was lost."

he thinks for a moment, a look of mischief competing with a look of concern.

"fine, i'll tag along."

i nod, smiling and grabbing his hand. it feels uncomfortable at first, considering we've just met, but it starts to feel normal as i take him racing down the halls.

"woah," he chuckles, stopping me, "where are you taking me?"

"just wait and see."

i take off running down the halls, my hand grasping his once again. i normally do this with blue on the first night. last year we snuck into the kitchen, and the year before we snuck into the gryffindor common room. this year feels different though, because i'm doing this with cedric diggory.

i stop once we've reached our destination, leaning against the wall. cedric is slightly out of breath, and leans against the wall in front of me. i look up at him, and he brushes a stray hair out of my face.

"where are we vina?" he asks, calling me something no one has before.

"we're breaking into the potions classroom, of course," i smirk.

"davina!" cedric scolds, "we could get caught. snape will serve us detention for months."

"oh relax ced," i laugh, "we won't get caught, and this will be fun. we'll learn a lot."

"what could we possibly learn from this, vina?"

"i like that... vina, i mean" i smile, "and we're going to brew a potion."

"and what potion might that be?"

"amortentia."
