Oblivious

The reluctant rays of moonlight fall lazily through the blinds

Playfully the light caresses her sleeping self

So serene

So calm

The room smells of warmth and tastes like silk

The blankets cocoon around her as petals of a flower

There she lays in all her restless beauty

A lock of hair twisting at rosy cheeks

A steady breath puffing contentedly from parted lips

Then a door creaks

The cold light of the moon

Jabs unmercifully at her comatose form

The sharp reverberation of footsteps

Come steadily towards her

Her protective blankets are silently lifted

And a vice slithers about her waist

He brings with him the smell of a winter’s day

And the taste of broken glass

Oh how oblivious is she

As she lays so serenely

In the devil’s nest

Peacefully she sleeps

In his clinical caress

She turns in her slumber

But doesn’t truly awake

She leans in for a kiss

And doesn’t realize

Everything that it takes

She laughs and she smiles

Unaware of his malice

She wears rose tinted frames

And drinks lies from a chalice

He has built his little kingdom

Of havoc and despair

None of it she sees

Through her rosy frames

Accepting is she

Of his little games

They’re innocent

She thinks

As she’s pulled further in

They’re harmless

She breathes

Unaware of his sin

Oblivious child

Run, I plead

Beautiful darling

He’s closing his reach

Her essence so bright

And his all consuming

Pretty baby

Can’t you see

The danger looming?
