Gabriel felt Soren stiffen against him. She laughed uneasily.
"Heh, how, uh, how exactly do you mean Nathaniel is my enemy?"
"He has plans that are deadly to our kind,"
"What 'kind' is that exactly?"
Gabriel sighed.
"Your true family, biological family isn't quite mortal. Well, perhaps 'mortal' isn't the right word. Perhaps 'human' would be a better term. Your veins have that of Fey and Elf lineage running through them. When a half-breed, for lack of a good term, is born they take on a mortal appearance. However, when a Fey reaches adolescence they grow into their magick. There are 8 different types of magick. They are the magic to control air, earth, fire, water, the magick of sight of the future, reading other's thoughts, moving objects without touch, and seeing something's past when you touch it. The 8th magick, and it is very rare, is the magick to change our shape. Our kind, yours as well as mine, are that rare few."
"Wait, what do we shift into? I mean, do we like only change at a certain time or can we do it at will? Does it hurt to change? How do we change? Are we dangerous when we change?"
Gabriel seized the opportunity to speak as Soren pause for a breath.
"Slow down or you're going to hyperventilate," he gave a small squeeze of a hug. "Now, as far shifting goes, we change into animal forms. In the beginning, you will change with the moon phases. However, once you practice you will be able to do it at will. In the beginning, it depends on the animal to determine the pain of shifting. I will explain the physics of it later but for now, I doubt that you realize that it's past one-thirty in the morning almost two."
Soren yawned.
"I'm sorry I took off but I really wanted to go see Nathaniel tonight." She said as Gabriel released her and she embraced Damian. Gabriel felt a wave of strange but immense anger at the latter comment.
'Mayhap this be jealousy?' he thought. Soren continued on with her little speech.
"Maybe I could just pop into his house for a minute."
Gabriel crossed his arms over his chest.
"There is no way you are getting anywhere near that..." his voice trailed into a growl.
"But, Gabby." She began to pout.
Damian let out a snort of laughter at the 'Gabby' comment.
Gabriel's eyes narrowed. "What's so funny?"
"Oh, heh, nothing at all, Gabby."
"Shove it down your throat, Ian."Damian stepped passed Soren putting himself about three inches away from Gabriel. His voice was low and threatening.
"No one calls me that but her."
"Tough words coming from a pathetic leech lover. Get out of my face your breath smells like sour blood." Gabriel hissed back.
Damian decked Gabriel making him stumble back about six steps. He recovered, rubbed his jaw, and lunged at him, knocking him to the ground. Pinning his arms under his knees, Gabriel began to land a blow on Damian's face. Damian bucked his hips trying to knock Gabriel off his abdomen. His knees shifted Damian the chance to start swinging. He had just switched their positions when someone screamed.
"Stop it! Both of you separate now! NOW!" Soren was pissed. "I swear to Cerridwen if you don't stop RIGHT now I will never speak to either of you ever again!"
Gabriel and Damian stared at the crazy lady.
"Fine. Kill each other. See if I care."
Soren turned and started walking home. This got the boys moving. Separating standing and dusting themselves off they called to her.
"Soren, wait, I'm sorry come back!"
"Sorinave, be reasonable please."
Without turning, Soren raised both hands in the air and made a crude gesture.
"I'm going home, losers," she called, "grow up and I might acknowledge you in the near future."
The boys caught up with her and she held true to her word. She ignored them the entire way home.
