Soren was shaking uncontrollably. She couldn't feel anything, totally numb. She was completely deaf to everything except the pounding, rushing blood in her ears. She knew Gabriel was trying to talk to her in soft tones but all were missed as they finished the ride home.

Gabriel placed a hand on her knee as they pulled into the driveway. Soren unhooked her seatbelt and followed him into the house. Damian came into the living room at the same time they did.

"What's wrong with her?" Damian asked.

Gabriel looked down, heaved a sigh, and looked back at him. "She just got attacked by Nathaniel."

"What?!" Damian looked furious.

"I went to pick her up and he was getting ready to bite her."

"What did you do? Did you just leave him there?" "No, I pulled him off of her and beat his ass!"

"Oh, that's fantastic. Now we have to worry about someone finding him and calling the police. Smooth, you reject, you should have left him alone."

"Really and what should I have done exactly? Tapped him on the shoulder and said 'Excuse me but you're fixing to bite my girlfriend. Could you please not.' Yeah, I'm sure that would have worked just dandy." Gabriel yelled.

"No, but you shouldn't have put your hands on him. Nathaniel is not someone you mess with. He's not going to let you get away with attacking him. I don't want you in my house. He WILL come after you and when he does I don't want you anywhere near my family."

"Then I won't be but you can be sure that I'm not leaving her here with no one to protect her."

"Are you saying that I can't protect my own sister?"

"I'm saying that you never even bothered to learn what your magick can do. You vehemently refused tutoring so, therefore, you have no defenses whatsoever. You can't protect yourself much less her."

Damian looked down.

"Whatever, Gabriel. Just...leave. Just get out of this house. If she's with, then I guess she's with you. But if anything happens to her, I will personally supena the Council to execute you for accessory to the movement."

Gabriel gave a curt nod and grabbed Soren's hand. "You have my word that she will not come to harm. Period. In my care or others," he turned towards the door.

"Oh by the way," Damian called, "that also means keep your hands to yourself." Gabriel threw a look over his shoulder and walked out the door.
