Old Friends

As he stared at his bedside drawer, he looked over at his clock and sighed, wiping away any evidence that his tears may have left, as if nothing had happened. It was 11:43pm at night, there's no way any of his friends would be awake at this hour. Well, maybe one, but he doesn't want to be a bother. His friend was most likely playing games and probably defeating a difficult level; but it couldn't hurt to try, right? He could always reply to him when he finished or in the morning before school. Once deciding, he reached out and picked up his phone that was sitting on his bedside drawer, scanning through his contacts until he saw the name he was looking for and began texting.

Hin: Hey, Kenma!

10 minutes had past - no response. He shouldn't be surprised, he knew Nekoma's captain would sometimes take Kenma's electronics away from him so that he would take better care of himself. Hinata then let his eyes fall shut; its pretty late, maybe he should-

Ken: Shoyo, what are you doing up so late?

He jumped slightly, staring at the object that let off the sudden ping notification. So he managed to keep his phone from Kuroo, huh? Once realising he was lost in his own thoughts, he quickly snapped out of it and replied to his friend.

Hin: Haha yea I couldn't sleep and figured you'd be up too

Hin: anyways, how's practice been?

Ken: hm it's been okay I guess.. Lev still sucks at practice and tries to hide from Kuroo whenever he gets the chance

Hin: pfft haha! Glad to knowing 5'4 is still better than 6'3!

Ken: heh, yea..

They talked for hours on end, allowing Hinata to forget about his personal issues and push them to the side momentarily. For the first time in a long time, he was happy. Don't get him wrong, he could never lose the love he feels when a spike is sent to him and the tingling sensation his hand gives once it smacks down onto the other side of the court; but this time was different. For once he was happy about something other than volleyball; he never wanted this feeling to end. That is until...

Hin: Oh crap! It's 2:34am!! We better get to sleep! Goodnight, Kenmaaa! \ (•◡•) /

Ken: Okay. Goodnight, Shoyo..

A sigh could be heard among the silence. Sure, Hinata wanted to talk to his friend some more, but Kenma needed sleep - and so did he. He set his alarm for 5:30am, meaning he'd have enough time to sneak out before his aunt woke up. Not wanting to stress out about it any further, he closed his eyes and tried to drift off. It took a while, no thanks to his empty stomach hurting, but he eventually got there - letting whatever amount of sleep he gets to deal with him later.

Beep. Beep. Beep.

"Ughh 5 more minutes..." he groaned, still sleep deprived. He would stay in bed all day if he could- wait.. If he could... Something about the sentence seems so... His eyes shot open not even 2 seconds later; he had school! He felt like his skin was about to jump off with how quick he got up and ready into his uniform. Once he was finished, he went to the bathroom to fix his hair in the mirror, something that he grew to despise throughout his daily routine. He stared at his reflection - every little insecurity creeping its way into his mind, ensuring to remind him of everything he's not. He eyes fell downcast, not wanting to see his reflection anymore than he has to. Less than a minute had past until he realised he was staring at the dresser beside his sink. He knew what was in there, he knew what his thoughts were suggesting as he reached out for the handle. It's just a little - it would be like revisiting an old friend, right..? He reached his hand out, gripping onto the handle; his thoughts running at 100 miles per second. 'This is it..! I'm gonna do it..! I'm gonna-' He quickly jumped from the sound of his ringtone. I guess that's one way of getting him back to his senses.

He glanced back over to his clock in his room, seeing it was around 6:12am. He should've left 10 minutes ago, but he wasn't in any big rush. School didn't start until 8:55am, and it was only a 30 minute distance if he used his bike. The only reason he got up so early was to A) make sure she didn't catch him - and B) so he could exercise and train for volleyball; he often trained by himself in middle school so it never made a difference. He walked over and picked up his phone, seeing that he had missed a call from Daichi. Huh, that was weird, when did the captain ever call him? Just as he was about the ring back, he got a text.

Dai: Hey Hinata, there's a few important errands that need done, so I was calling to say that practice will be cancelled for today.

Dai: Oh, and sorry if I woke you from your sleep!

Hinata sighed. What else was he supposed to do after school? 'I guess I could just train by myself... Oh! I could ask Kageyama if we could practice!' His face then lit up at the thought as he quietly made his way out of his house, completely forgetting what he was about to do 5 minutes ago and was instead feeling ecstatic each time he thought about practicing with his partner.

The school day had come to an end and as soon as that bell rung, all people could see was a tiny ginger like ball running down the hallway and bursting through one of the classroom doors.

"Kageyama! Hey, let's practice!" Kageyama jumped, how did he get here so quickly? The bell had just gone off. Kageyama then scoffed at him and went back to packing his books away. That's weird though, Kageyama was annoyed at most things, which was usually part of his personality - but when it came to practice?

"Not today, Dumbass. I have somewhere to be. Besides, Daichi told us practice was cancelled."

"I knoww~! But I've been looking forward to this all day! Cmon~ pleaseeee!"

"I'm busy, alright?" Kageyama then turned to face Hinata, seeing the hurt written all over his face before he quickly put on his signature 'sunshine smile' a second later.

"Ughh fine! We'll practise tomorrow then, okay? Byeee!" He slightly shouted as he was leaving the room mid sentence, waving. Kageyama, on the other hand, was left stood there confused. He'd never seen Hinata look so upset; well, he obviously has, but this was different. It was almost as if he was avoiding something and needed a distraction from his problems - and that very distraction was the thing he had just turned down. Guilt swept in as he couldn't see what else he could do, he really did have somewhere to be. Obviously worried for his friend, he instead did what he thought was right and took out his phone and began texting the only person who he thought could help him with advice.

Kag: Sugawara, when you get the chance, I need to talk to you about something..
