Their Little Human

Moving Day pt. 2

Rick and Ethan get off work at the same time, sitting at a booth together sipping some coffee.

"So, Annie moved to day shift?" Ethan notices the redhead waiting tables.

"Well, of course. A cutie for a cutie. Makes sense to me."

"You think Annie is cute?!"

Rick groans at that, flicking Ethan's forehead.

"I also called you cute, don't think too much into it."

Ethan pouts. "You just never take interest in anyone. There's like, a ton of cute people on night shift! I saw them!"

Rick shrugs, taking another sip of coffee. "I don't have any want to be with anyone, Ethan. There's nothing wrong with that. If I recall, that's how you were."

"I'm 18, I had plenty of time to find someone. You haven't found anyone in the recent 50 years."

Rick groans, rubbing his face. "Don't remind me on how lonely I am, Ethan. It's rude."

Ethan chuckles, patting Rick on the back of his hand.

"Awww, maybe if you took interest in someone, you'd find someone."

Rick smiles softly at Ethan. "It's a little to late for that."

Ethan frowns at that. "What do you mean?"

"Oh look, Seth and Raziel have arrived. I should be going." Rick stands, going to leave.

"Wait, Rick-"

"See you Monday, Ethan."

Rick disappears out the door as Raziel and Seth walk up to the table.

"Sheesh, what's his deal?" Seth asks, holding out a hand to help Ethan out of the booth.

"I wish I knew, honestly," Ethan replies, using Seth's hand to stand up.

"How was your night?" Raziel asks, patting Ethan on the head.

"Kind of long. But other wise it went good. Rick and I are good friends so he makes it less boring."

The trio exit the building. Seth opens the door on the car for Ethan, who slides in. Raziel opens the door on the other side, fitting himself on Ethan's left. Seth sits on his right.

He feels kind of squished between the two men, he wasn't going to lie.

"So Rick is your friend?" Raziel begins.

"Oh, yeah. A coworker friend. He's been working for The Red Eye longer than I have."

"Interesting.. a vampire working in the same industry for a long time.."

Ethan tilts his head. "Raziel, how much do you interact with other beings?"

"Not much, if I'm being honest. I know things through books."

"Do you ever interact with the lower class?"

"No. That I do not." Ethan nods at that.

"I can tell..."

Raziel frowns. "What do you mean?"

"You make assumptions a lot."

"Like what?"

"Like about Rick. He's not lower class but still. He enjoys his job at The Red Eye. It pays well. He gets lots of tips. He doesn't have any reason to leave it. But from your knowledge of vampires, you see them as hoppers, never taking a job for long, or a job at all."
