"Appa!" A little girls voice rang throughout the small apartment as she ran into the kitchen, tugging on her dad's cooking apron."What's up, sweet pea?" He asked, looking down at her with a smile.
"I dressed myself today! Do I look cute?" She asked and he chuckled, ruffling her dark brown hair.
"You're always cute, Hwayoung! Come on, let's eat breakfast." He told her, placing her plate of breakfast on her spot at the table as she crawled onto the chair, beginning to spoon the food into her mouth.
"It's delicious! Thank you so much, appa!" She thanked him, a bright wide smile on her face. He smiled at her and gave her a small high five.
"I'm glad you like it, baby. Eat up!"
-
"Appa! Your phone is ringing!" Hwayoung told her father, pointing at it as it rested on the kitchen counter charging.
"Oh! Thank you, sweet heart." He smiled, picking up his phone.
"Hello?" He answered, waiting to see who it was.
"San!" He heard his booming brother respond happily, wanting to pull the phone away from his ear.
"Hey Jongho, what's up?" San spoke into the phone.
"Want to meet up for some coffee at the café after you drop Hwayoung off at kindergarten? I'm in town for a few weeks for some work." He asked and San smiled brightly.
"Sure. That sounds good. I have to head to the post office later today to ship out some orders, but we should really catch up. Are you staying at a hotel? You could come stay here until you leave. Hwayoung would love your company." San told him.
"I was planning on staying at a hotel, but staying with you would be cheaper and much more fun. I'll just head back with you after we meet up if that's good with you." Jongho suggested and San nodded.
"That sounds perfect. I have to get going before Hwayoung is late for kindergarten. I'll meet you there in a few." San told Jongho, hanging up.
"Who was it appa?" Hwayoung asked, tugging on San's black ripped skinny jeans.
"It was Uncle Jongho. He will be staying with us for a few weeks." He told her, making her smile brightly and jump around the room happily.
"Yay! I love Uncle Jongho!"
-
San walked into the café after dropping Hwayoung off at her kindergarten school. He saw Jongho sitting in the back corner waiting for him patiently.
Jongho looked up from his phone and saw San standing by the door, waving to him. San gave the younger a smile and waved back, heading over to him.
Jongho got up and gave his older brother a hug. "It's been a while, hyung." He said as they sat back down.
"Oh! This is for you. I remembered your favorite drink." Jongho told San, sliding the drink over to him.
"Thanks, Jongho. So how's work going?" San asked and Jongho smiled happily.
"It's amazing. My manager said that I'm going to have a concert abroad in the states. I'm super excited for it. I can't wait to meet my fans across the world. I'm actually in town for a few modeling shoots this week, though. It should be a lot of fun." The younger explained excitedly.
"That sounds like a lot of fun. I hope you get there safely, Jongho. I still can't believe you're a K-pop idol. It blows my mind. I'm very proud of you. You know that, right?" San told him, the younger nodding in reply.
"Of course I do. I'm more proud of you, though." Jongho told him and San cocked a brow before Jongho explained what he meant.
"I mean, you have a daughter. And I know we had that huge fight a few years ago, but I'm past that and we both know it. I haven't seen her in a while, but I see all the cute pictures you post of her on your Instagram. She is a cutie and you are raising her really well. I'm proud of you for that, San. It isn't easy being a single parent, let alone a single father raising his daughter." Jongho praised him, tears coming to San's eyes.
"Thank you, Jongho. That means a lot to me. I'm just thankful that she is such a wonderful, nice, loving, and caring little girl. I'm actually saving up money to legally change her last name." San told him, Jongho's eyes widening a bit.
"Wait, really?" He asked, San nodding.
"Mhm. I feel that it's about time to do it. I don't know why, but I feel like her last name reminds me of the past and I think it's holding me back when it shouldn't be." He explained and Jongho nodded.
"San, you haven't gone out with anyone since Minyoung. Why haven't you gotten back out there and dated some more girls?" Jongho asked and the older shrugged.
"I don't know. I guess it's just because I'm scared that when I finally find the right girl that they won't want to be with me because of Hwayoung." San said and Jongho shook his head.
"You can't let Hwayoung hold you back from finding love, San. It's like me and my career. If I let my career as a kpop idol hold me back from finding love, then I would've never met Hongjoong."
"I mean, I guess that's true. How are you guys, by the way?" San asked and before Jongho could tell him all about his relationship, he saw a worker fall and spill a drink all over the floor and himself.
"I'll be back." San told his brother, rushing over to the employee.
"Are you okay?" San asked, grabbing some paper towels and helping him clean up the mess.
"I'm okay. You don't have to help, I got it." The employee reassured San, but he shook his head.
"No, it's okay. Let me help you." San insisted and the employee managed a small smile.
"Thank you so much for helping me. In order to pay back your kindness, would you like a free pastry?" He male asked and San smiled sweetly.
"Sure."
"Here you go." The employee said, handing San a small box with a free pastry inside.
"Thank you." San told him, giving him a small wave before he returned to his seat with Jongho.
"What was that about?"
"He gave me a free pastry for helping him clean up. He's a nice guy." San explained briefly, continuing to catch up with his little brother.
"If you say so."
