Chapter 005 ( new!! )

Another day came in a flash without the students' desire. The university campus was peaceful— that was until Jake Sim decided to draw attention by making a scene. 

❝ Hi, ❞ was all the boy said while taking a seat right next to Jangmi in their Physics class. Jake was majoring in Computational Physics meanwhile the girl seated next to him was from Computer Science. 

All eyes darted towards the two who the university students least suspected to be interacting. Every student in their room had never seen the two figures even talking. Jangmi's close friends were awestruck since they, of all people, did not see this unusual pairing.

❝ Huh? Hi? ❞ Jangmi felt pressured to talk all of a sudden in front of such an interested audience so she initiated a conversation on the notepad.  

Why are you suddenly sitting next to me in class?

Jake chuckled before replying to her in the same favor.

You said let's be friends. You're always with your friends too, and I also don't have your contact. This was the fastest way I could think of.

Jangmi realized the Sim had a point. Still, the girl was far from being comfortable with everyone's focus on them. Indeed, Jake was a popular guy. What did she get herself into this time?  

Can we talk after class?

 Sim Jake nodded with a simple smile, proceeding to take out his books for the lecture next to her. Jangmi felt the guilt eating her up deeper. Jake genuinely seemed like he wanted to be friends with her. Yet, here she was, set with her own stratagem to advantage from their friendship.

❝ Are you not okay with being friends with me in public? ❞ Jake questioned whilst exchanging their socials. Jangmi reasoned herself, ❝ No, no, it's not that I'm not okay! It's the eyes and rumors which I'm scared of. Don't want these unnecessary stuffs to light up, you get me? ❞ Even now, the talking two were at an isolated area near the parking lot, far from many. It wasn't enough for Jangmi to stop glancing over Jake's shoulder to see if any familiar faces were around.

Jake seemed rather unfazed. ❝ Rumors? Of what kind exactly? ❞

❝ You know very well what I'm referring to. ❞ Jangmi cocked up a brow while bringing Jake to the nearest assumption of their relationship. 

❝ OH, you're afraid that they might think we're dating? Anyhow, it's none of anyone's business though. Those who actually bother to mind would be just a few obsessive fangirls of mine. ❞

❝ Bingo! ❞ Jangmi snapped her fingers, ❝ They're the ones I'm scared of. Who knows what they could do to me? ❞ The girl shrugged her shoulders while staring at Jake who was busy looking into her eyes, detecting slight of fear. 

❝ You know that I wouldn't let them hurt you, right? ❞

Jake's choice of wording made Jangmi's heart thump a bit. 'It's probably the wording. Calm down,' she reminded herself while quirking up a brow in front of the bold guy.

❝ I-I mean,❞ Jake internally cursed at himself for stuttering at the wrong moment.  ❝ What I meant to say is that, my family owns a law firm, so those who dare to commit harassment  verbally or non-verbally shall face consequences, ❞ he stated confidently after clearing his throat.

Jangmi cracked up at the boy's formal sentence as she couldn't help but smile. Jake Sim was nothing like the rumors she heard of.  ❝ That's very nice of you, Sim, but I'm pretty sure I can stand up for myself. ❞ Jake's cheekbones appeared visibly while the young adult scratched the back of his head shyly.

❝ Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Are you free right now to go somewhere with me? ❞

His offer made Jangmi flustered. Did he always make moves this fast? A date already? 

❝ Hmm, I have somewhere to go right now, actually. Tomorrow in the afternoon should be fine though, since I have no afternoon classes. ❞ She wasn't lying since she had a schedule already waiting ahead. Jake, on the other hand, looked disappointed as a pout was on his lips.

❝ Sweet! Then, I'll text you after morning classes tomorrow then. Do you want me to drop you off? ❞ Usually, her brother Dokyeom would pick her up but he had his own plans for the evening today.  

❝ Nah, it's okay. I'll just take the taxi. I don't wanna burden you. ❞ She would feel more like a villain to take advantage of Jake's kind acts too. 

❝ Just wait here for a while, alright? I'll be right back.❞ 

❝ But—❞

Before Jangmi could even continue her argument, the benevolent boy was already pacing out of her reach. This guy sure did have the soul of a saint that she couldn't help but smile at his actions.

Jangmi just insisted that Jake drop her off at her house. The mentioned boy also got out of the driver's seat and opened the passenger's ride for her. Such a gentleman he was. If she didn't stay on guard, she would've already fallen for this guy.

The car ride was rather peacefully quiet—it wasn't uncomfortably silenced. They had a small talk about a recap of their typical day at university. Their majors were slightly similar so the two shared some of the same interests in certain subjects.

It was during that moment in which Jangmi felt the guilt lifting off her chest for a bit. She was willing to sincerely accept him as a friend, but according to her mission, she had to be something special to him.

Something Jangmi was bad at hiding, though, was her uncontrollable glances at Sim's attractive side profile while driving. Styled in a button up blue shirt with rolled sleeves with a white sweatshirt revealing underneath as a result of three buttons being unbuttoned, he looked more than amazing.

She thought her colleagues were messing around when they told her a hot target could distract one from their goals. Seems like the joke was on her now.

Park Jangmi could definitely tell why many had heart eyes for this winsome guy now.
