We all huddled in front of the screen, waiting unhappily to hear what terrible twist the Quarter Quell would have.
For 100 years, the citizens of the districts had to go through this cruel event; for 100 years at least 23 innocent children were unfairly and brutally murdered.
I hated the games.  But then again, who didn't?
Squashed between my two brothers, and by my sister on my lap, I watched as the livestream of the Capitol began.
President Snow stood on the podium.
"Ladies and gentleman, this is the 100th year of the Hunger Games. It was written in the charter of the games that every 25 years, there would be a Quarter Quell, to keep fresh for each generation the memory of those who died in the uprising against the Capitol.  Each Quarter Quell is distinguished by games of a special significance.  And now, on the 100th anniversary of the defeat of the rebellion, we celebrate the 4th Quarter Quell."
There were cheers from the Capitol as the envelope was opened.
"As a reminder that the lives of many have been torn apart by the selfishness of the rebels, on this, the 4th Quarter Quell games, entire families will be reaped to enter the arena.  Those sharing a family name will compete, regardless of age.  There will only be one Victor if those reaped.   Have a happy Hunger Games and may the odds be ever in your favor."
And with that, the stream ended.
I looked around at the gaping mouths of my family and found an equal expression on my face.
"A whole family?,"  my 11-year-old sister, Ember, asked.
"Yes dear.  I pray that it isn't us," my mother replied gravely.
I shuddered at the very thought.  Having to fight your own family to the death is just monstrous.  But, that's what's going to happen to twelve of them.  I shuddered.
