What a day it had been. The trial of Mahiru Koizumi had been a haunting one. Not only had the sweet, red-headed girl been murdered, but Fuyuhiko had an incredibly close encounter with the reaper of death as well. Peko had saved him, but...She'd still died. It was her punishment for being found guilty, yet it didn't soften the blow in the slightest.

Y/N sat on the edge of her bed, nails dug into her thighs as she bit back tears. This killing game was horrifying. Sure, that was stating the obvious, but there weren't many other words to describe it. The intensity and insanity truly couldn't be summed up in any other way.
Not to mention, this time around, the person who'd been killed, Y/N deeply cherished. The first killing to take place, the murder of Byakuya Togami, had been gruesomely shocking, but...There truly was a difference when you knew the person well.
Mahiru was so kind and warm-hearted. Sure, she could be a bit hot-headed at times, but that only added to her charms. The two girls had clicked the moment they met. From the first day, they'd gotten along extremely well.
Even though it wasn't her Ultimate, Y/N was fond of photography, so meeting someone with such masterful skill on the subject made her a bit giddy.
But now, to have seen her dead, slumped on the floor of the empty beach house, made her want vomit. She couldn't get the image of her poor friend out of her mind, and it was driving her insane.
"Stupid..." She whispered to herself, nails digging further into the skin of her thighs. At this point, she was drawing blood, but Y/N hardly gave it a second glance. All she knew was, she didn't want to cry here. Nobody had any privacy, and showing negative emotion would just be submitting to that bi-colored stuffed bear. This is what he wanted. For them to give into to their negativity, but how could she stop herself? Four people were dead, and another injured. What else could she do except cry? She was so confused, and heartbroken because of the situation they were in. All she'd wanted was to go to Hope's Peak Academy. She hadn't signed up for this. That day, when she walked onto the campus of her new school, she'd anticipated nothing but a good atmosphere. Yes, more rigorous school work would be a bore, but most of her time would be focused on her talent. Y/N was happy to have the talent she was assigned. She knew not everyone was given a talent they particularly enjoyed, but she truly did. The passion Y/N held for her talent was undeniable, and it was easy to see that.

The poor girl was drawn from her thoughts as a quiet knock sounded at her door. Her breath hitched in her throat before she'd finally realized the pain she had inflicted on herself. Thankfully, the marks were on the upper area of her thighs, and were easily covered by the fabric of her skirt. The bright red marks were stinging, but at least it was a bearable pain.

Y/N stood up, honestly a bit nervous to open the door. After what had already happened that day, it was only normal for her to be worried about who was on the other side. Their intentions were unknown, along with their identity.
Hearing the knock again, Y/N began to make her way towards the door. She made an effort to reassure herself, but it was difficult to push the thoughts aside.
"A murder wouldn't happen here.." she whispered to herself, reaching out her hand to unlock the door, "Everyone would hear..." Honestly, she wasn't sure if that was true. There'd been no evidence proving whether the rooms were soundproof or not.
Thankfully, the person greeting her at the door wasn't someone she considered threatening. The cloud-headed boy stood there with a smile on his face,
"Ah! Good evening, Y/n!" he chimed, reaching his hand out to her. A bit startled by this, Y/N backed up, but forced a smile anyways to return his greeting.
Now, Y/N couldn't say she completed trusted Nagito, none of them could. After all, he had tried to murder Byuakuya Togami during the first round of the killing game. It automatically made him that much more untrustworthy. Yet, he didn't seem....Evil. Delusional, sure, but not evil.
In the days before, Kazuichi and Nekomaru had actually tied Nagito up in the abandonded building. The whole idea just seemed so inhumane to Y/N. She understood that precaution was necessary, but to that extent? He was a person, and still should've been treated as such.
"I'd like to ask you something...If you'd be willing to to talk to trash like me..." Nagito began, his happy expression not faltering for a second as he said those degrading things about himself. Y/N gave him a worried glance, which he seemed to catch on to, "Ah, I can tell you don't trust me! I'll just go." He sighed, giving her a wave before he turned to leave,
"He-Hey wait!" She interjected, making a move to grab the boy's sweater sleeve. He stopped abruptly, turning to her with confusion laced into his now, seemingly forced, smile, "I never said no," She said softly, letting go of his hoodie, which she had been holding. She brought her hands down to rest in front of her, clenching the hem of her skirt as she waited for him to talk.
Despite how the white-headed boy spoke, he was clearly troubled by something. He always presented himself to be so...Outgoing and cheerful. Even after the..."Events," of the first trial, he continued to act that way. Except, after seeing him in such a desperate state before, it made his current attitude all the more unnerving.
"Oh, really? You actually want to hear?" He crossed his arms, in a way, almost embracing himself, "Thank you so much! You're so kind, Y/N!" As he said that, the conversation fell silent for a moment. She really did feel for Nagito. He really, really, didn't like himself, which was something she understood. Hearing him speak so lowly of himself made her upset though. He wasn't "trash," or, "garbage," not in her opinion, at least.
Y/N took a moment to think of her words, but she didn't really know how to respond to such self-deprecating wording. She didn't want to come off as strange, but she didn't want to confirm his negative behavior either, "Hey- Nagito, it's okay!" She said, forcing a cheerful tone. She grabbed his hoodie sleeve once more, pulling his arms out of the awkward, self-hugging position he was currently in.
Now, Y/N was holding one of Nagito's cold hands, "Honestly....I'm not sure what you're going on about, but I'm happy to listen! You don't have to ask to talk to me, you know? Just...Talk." Throughout her short sentiment, Y/N tried to sound as comforting as possible. She watched as pink dusted his face, but it was faint, and almost undetectable in the dim light coming from her cottage.

Nagito opened his mouth to speak, but shut himself up just as quickly. He looked strangely down at her skirt, before backing up a bit.
Y/N tilted her head, confused as he backed away, but before she could question it, he spoke again, "Your legs are bleeding." He stated matter-of-factly, though clearly seemed a bit concerned.
"Uh...Huh...?" She was confused for a moment, but it didn't take very long for her eyes to go wide, "S-Shit! Give me a second, okay?" Nagito nodded, watching as she retreated into her cottage. Y/N hadn't closed the door, but Nagito, not wanting to invade her privacy, looked away.

Y/N hurriedly rushed into the bathroom. Lifting up her skirt, she saw what Nagito had seen. It wasn't much, but blood had dripped down, stopping right above her kneecap. She mumbled a curse at herself. How hadn't she noticed they were bleeding? Maybe it was because she'd gotten distracted by Nagito's sudden visit.
Y/N inhaled deeply, taking bandage wrap from under the sink to apply to her bleeding legs. It was a bit dramatic, in her opinion, but she didn't feel like making the dash to the convenience store when she had something she could make due with. She finished the process quickly, then deciding to check her skirt to see if there was any blood. Considering the color, black, it would hardly be noticeable, even if it were there, but she didn't want to deal with stains later. Luckily, there were none.
Y/N made her way out of the bathroom, greeted by Nagito, who'd moved silently, at some point, to edge of her bed. He looked up at her, concerned laced in his expression, before it quickly changed to a smile. He always had the same smile, but...It only felt genuine on occasion. This was not one of those times,
"Are you okay, Y/N?" he tilted his head, hands supporting himself as he leaned slightly backwards on the bed.
Y/N sighed softly, walking over to him. He seemed a bit surprised by her sudden approach, but sat still.
Before he knew it, her arms were wrapped around his torso, head buried into his chest. She was crying. She made no noise, but...Nagito could tell. For one, she was trembling. It was almost a dead give away, "So, you're not." he noted, hesitantly returning the hug. In all honesty, this wasn't something Nagito was good at. Sure, he knew how to fake optimism, repeating the same sentiments over and over again, but when it came to actually trying to comfort someone, he was clueless. Nobody trusted him enough to cry in front of him. Well, except for the class trails, but those weren't exactly...Built off of trust.
Yet, here Y/N was. Alone with him, and crying.
"S-Sorry..." she breathed out, unable to raise her voice louder than a whisper, "I really...Didn't want to cry here." she laughed sadly, breaking their hug, and wiping her eyes. She stood up, smoothening out her skirt, and looked away from him. She was still fighting back tears though. That much was obvious, even to Nagito.
For a moment, the pale boy just stared at her. Well, he had somewhat zoned out. She just happened to be in his line of sight.
Without as much of a word, Nagito stood up, taking Y/N's hand, and quickly led her out of her small room. Y/N stumbled after him as he dragged her along, not too sure of what was happening.
By the time they stopped moving, the two had only gone as far as the pool area. Still holding her hand, Nagito sat down. The sudden action caused Y/N to as well, taking his hint.
"Nagito- What's-"
"Look."
Before Y/N could even finish her question, Nagito pointed his finger towards the sky. Y/N drew her attention upwards.
The sky was gorgeous. How had she never noticed it before? It was dark enough outside that the entire sky was lit up with stars. Hundreds, no- thousands, of tiny lights speckled the blue-purple gradient.
Y/N stared in awe for a few moments. Both of them did.
They had been sitting in silence for was seemed like hours, but Nagito finally spoke up,
"Did this help? ...I'm sure that you'd much rather be doing this with someone you actually cared about, but-" Now it was her turn to interrupt him.
"What do you mean..? I do care about you, Nagito...Please don't think otherwise." Y/N knew that just saying things wasn't going to put his mind a ease, at least not completely. So, she kept holding his hand, gently tracing her thumb in circles over where she held.
She knew that Nagito was hurting. Everyone was. Being forced into such a cruel game...Would traumatize anybody.
This was the only thing she could do for him. The conversation simply had fallen silent again, and stayed that way for hours.
Before they knew it, the two of them had stayed up all night, signified by the rising of the sun. Yes, they were tired, but at least...The both felt a little bit better than they had earlier. That was all that really mattered.
