"So who exactly did you say we were meeting?" Jack slurred out to his long-time friend, Mr.Gibbs.
"No clue. The fella who gave me the letter just ran off without sayin' a word, much less given me a name. The letter didn't even have much of one either, just 'D.U. ALAMAR' signed at the bottom of the letter." Gibbs showed him the signature at the bottom of the messy letter as they dodged random people and objects that littered the claustrophobic streets of a small port town known to be a pirate town.
"Isn't that... a little worrisome?" He spared a nervous look at his comrade.
"Nothin' we can't handle captain," Gibbs reassured him.
Jack shrugged and put his suspicions aside for the time being. They trudged through the slums going further and further into the shadier parts of the town until they come across an inconspicuous shack by the street.
"This?... This is the place?" Jack exclaims dumbfounded. "What did ya' expect? A castle?" Gibbs walked ahead of him and knocked on the dilapidated door. The door was cracked open just enough for a piercing eye to look out at the two. The eye looked them up and down, sizing them up before coming out a satisfied grunt and a statement of "Yeah, it's them." The door was swung open and they were quickly rushed inside by two fancily dress people who looked foreign. Their accents were thick and hard to understand at times, but most of what was directed to the two pirates were directional commands.
The shack was bigger than it originally seemed and expanded into stretched halls with scattered rooms filled with a variety of shady characters and clientele. The true nature of this place's existence was quickly donning on the two pirates, putting them on edge. The stench of mold, alcohol, and as many illegal drugs as you could imagine hung thick in the moist air. This place was one of the few places that the two wouldn't enjoy, yes they were pirates, but the things here were far beyond their world.
At the end of the hall was a strange door that seemed to be in better shape than all the other ones here. The odd occupants that lingered in the halls looked as if they consistently kept a good distance between them and this door. Jack and Gibbs shared a look. Whoever was past that door is big trouble.
The taller of the two foreign men opened the door for them to enter. Inside the room was a dusty, torn couch and a small, dusty table that was littered with cigars and cards only accompanied by two glasses of whiskey, one of which was untouched. At the back of the room was a darkly colored door with a sturdy structure.
Two people were already in the room as they entered and they looked up at the newly opened door.
There, on the couch, was a face that Jack wished he had never seen again.
What are the chances that the same man who he had a noose around his neck with would show up again?
Especially in the same damn opium den.The man was wearing a hat that shaded the top part of his face, but Jack could tell who he was just from that devilish smirk that had embedded itself into his mind that cursed day. He had a strong-looking woman with him. Her skin was darker than his and she had her hair shaved and a dark glare was directed at everyone but the man to her left. Even her posture was intimidating.
The golden-eyed menace perked up once he saw Jack and said pirate felt himself tense up at the familiar mischievous grin.
The woman looked at him in surprise. "Do ya' know em' captain?" He turned to her and nodded before leaning in and whispering something to her.
She hummed in acknowledgment before turning to the other two pirates. "The captain welcomes ye! Why don't you two come sit while we wait for the bastard that's kept us waiting so long."
Gibbs spoke before Jack could make any comment. "Wait ye aren't the ones who sent the letter?" He interrogated her.
"No, we got one too. I was just brought along cause he can't read English too well." The man flinched and lightly slapped her arm in a playful manner that caused her to chuckle in an impish way.Jack very quickly decided that the best course of action was to, of course, try to make the golden male angry.
"I must say, darling, you are quite the beauty, I may just have to take you from your man there." Gibbs gave Jack a look that could only mean "what the hell do you think you're doing making the two most intimidating people in the room angry" to which he completely ignored. The woman only let out a hearty laugh at his words and the man next to her remained unfazed.
"You think we're together?" She laughed further at Jack while pointing between her and the male beside her.
"Oh? You aren't? Well, that just makes things easier for me."
Jack almost swears he can feel her laugh shake the walls with its power."Ha! I don't think you've got much of a chance. You see I tend to go for people who look more like, well me if ya' get what I mean." She winked as the words processed in the two other pirate's brains, Jack did an 'oh' face showing got the memo.
"Tell ya what, you sure do seem to be my captain's type!" She snickered mischievously. Jack half expected him to smack her again but he only smiled at Jack and patted the seat next to him making the girl let out a howling laugh and Jack's face to warm up from embarrassment and anger.
How did this get turned around to making fun of me!
Jack heard Gibbs grumble from beside him. "We sure found some interesting characters here."
Yeah, they sure did.
No one was prepared though.
Sunny: Sorry this took so long. This exposition bit is just kind of boring to write. But things will start picking up soon! That and I've been busy so time has just flown by. Hardly seems like last week that I posted the first chapter of this but it's been a month!
Vlad: I made some major changes in the most recent edit of this chapter by the way because he wrote this chapter while he was falling asleep so it's a bit all over the place.
