When ever we have heard of the Ramayana it has always been about Ram representing light, all that which is good, pure and an ideal person and Raavan has representing all that which is dark and evil. In this world people are brought up to hate Raavan without even knowing him. But how can we forget that both of them were as human as us and how come we end up defining one as a god and the other a demon? We forget that they were humans too, like us, and they made mistakes too.

Ramayana is one of the greatest epic in Hindu culture that signifies "victory of good over evil". "The Ramayana is not just a story: it presents the teachings of ancient Hindu sages (Vedas) in narrative allegory, interspersing philosophical and devotional elements. The characters Rama, Sita, Hanuman, Laxman and Raavan are all fundamental to the cultural consciousness of India and Hindus." Whereas the characters Rama, Sita, Hanuman, Laxman became God, Raavan, Meghnad and Kumbhkarn became evil ought to be defeated by Gods. Vijayadashami also known as Dussehra is one of the most important Hindu festivals celebrated in various forms, across India. Effigies of Raavan, Meghnad and Kumbhkarn are burnt to symbolize victory of good over evil. But was Meghnad really evil whose effigy is burnt year after year to signify death and destruction of evil?

We forget that humans are neither white nor black but they lie in the same gray area between them. We never talk about how Ram left his pregnant wife to thrive on her own in a forest just because he wanted to please all the citizens of his country and just because he wanted to prove himself as a great king. Ram is glorified, even worshipped because he had someone to glorify him and Raavan didn't? Of course it cannot be argued that what Raavan did was wrong by kidnapping Sita and maybe he even deserves all the hatred but what about the rest of his family? Do they also deserve all the hated they get?

In fact in reality there are no heroes just people with different agendas and priorities. Here I present to you the story of the son of this so hated villain in Indian mythology, Meghnath. The most powerful warrior of the most hated man in history. What was his life like? Most people are blinded to his life and think he deserved what he got but, did he? Did he deserve to die young and pay of the sins of his father or were they his sins that he payed for? He honors his father, which isn't wrong considering that Raavan was an intellectual and excelled in almost all fields. Isn't this wrong that his effigy is burnt for generations to justify victory of Good over evil? How can a person who possesses such noble attributes and high skills be considered as evil? These questions must be posed to us.
