16 - Return of Midnight

Rene sat beside a tree in front of many other students. She slipped on her headphones and relaxed. The sun beat down on her face, which created a perfect atmosphere. Suddenly someone shadowed her. She opened her eyes and saw Jack looking down at her. She sat up and paused her music "Yes?" She questioned. Jack threw down a document, which contained tonnes of pages "What is this?" She asked. Jack sat in front of her and sighed heavily "It's the research I did on Alpha".

"Why do I need this?" She questioned. Jack sat down in front of her "There is so much we know about our hides, maybe you need to get to know your own" He suggested. Rene scoffed, picked up the document, skimmed through it and tossed back onto Jack's lap "I appreciate it, but I'm trying to have a chill day to myself...away from all the werewolf stuff" She informed. Jack nodded and stood up "Just in case you want to read it" He stated. He left the document on the ground and trotted off. Rene stared at the document briefly, then picked it up.

Rene sat in her bedroom and read through the document. Jack was right, there was a lot for her to learn. A knock on the door was heard then a sudden "Someones been avoiding me" Randall pointed out. Rene sat in silence then gave in; "Come in!" She replied. He dipped his head in "Hey beautiful!" He hummed. Rene grinned and crossed her legs. He entered the room and closed the door.

"Hamish told me everything" He stated. Rene looked down at her lap and fiddled with her fingers. Randall slowly sat down and grabbed her hand "I would never do that to you" He pleaded. Rene smiled slightly "But you don't understand, it's a vision. Who's to say what happens before then? You could hate me" She stated, then looked up at him. He simply smiled and squeezed her hand gently "If that happens, we can prevent it" He mentioned. Rene sighed "What if you sided...and got together with Gabrielle for a good reason? What if I'm truly bad?" She doubted. Randall laughed "Are you serious?" He questioned in a high pitched voice. Rene furrowed "You are the most amazing and kindest person I know" He put honestly. She smiled "I promise you that I will ALWAYS be by your side" He stated. Rene nodded and smiled "Now come here" Randall insisted as he opened his arms. Rene shifted herself and rested herself into him.

Later that day, the sun was at it's fullest, and the heat was perfect. Hamish and Randall sat outside with drinks, having a few laughs. Rene walked out onto the porch where they sat "Hey!" Hamish cheered. Rene sat on the steps and leaned against the porch "Beautiful day" She pointed out. Hamish nodded in agreement "Drink?" He offered. Rene pouted and nodded "Don't mind if I do" She replied. The gates opened and a truck rolled in. Everyone looked to attention, Randall lowered his sunglasses. Rene stood up "Who's that?" She asked. Randall shrugged "I have no idea" He replied. The man got out and Rene's face dropped "Oh shit" She cursed. Randall furrowed "Who is it?" He asked without taking his eyes off of him. Rene sighed "That's my dad...Karl" She complained. Randall smiled "Aww" He admired. Rene shook her head "No...he's not a nice man" She informed.

"You're dropping out now!" He shouted. Rene furrowed "Umm...no I'm not" Rene disagreed and stood her ground. He approached her and went to grab her arm, Randall quickly grabbed his arm, he sensed his violent intent. Karl looked at him "You must be Randall" He stated before he punched him. Randall fell over and Rene panicked. She turned into Alpha right in front of him.

Karl staggered back and fell onto the floor. Hamish heard the commotion and ran out of the house "What's going on-" he paused and looked at Rene. He quickly grabbed a robe from the hook and passed it to Rene. Rene got into it and fixed herself "You leave me alone...like you always do" She informed. Karl gulped "What are you?" He stuttered. Rene grinned "Not your daughter" She simply replied before he dashed back to his truck.

Melissa appeared, sitting on the bannister of the porch "Oh snap!" She laughed. Rene looked over "Now that was savage!" Melissa continued. Rene looked at Randall "Are you okay?" She asked. Randall rubbed his jaw "Yeah, I'm fine. How did he know me?" He wondered. Rene furrowed and looked back towards the truck that took off. Hamish smiled awkwardly "Drink?" he continued.

Everyone sat in the living room in silence. Rene looked up and looked into the foyer, she watched the basement door shut slightly. She furrowed and stood up. She instantly felt uneasy. She took her time walking towards the door. She peeked into the darkness and saw nothing. Everyone was now staring at her "Rene?" Lilith asked. Rene placed her finger onto her lip then looked back down into the basement. She brought out her phone and put the flash on. She walked down and walked towards the bottom door. She opened it and saw Gabrielle. She screamed slightly and leaned against the bookcase "Hi!" She said happily. Rene folded her arms and looked at her sternly "What do you want?" She questioned.

"We heard screaming?!" Hamish mentioned frantically. Rene sighed "It's only Gabrielle" She informed. Gabrielle waved, and Hamish furrowed "What're you doing here? You left ages ago" He mentioned. Gabrielle sighed dramatically "I want to be with my friends" She replied. Rene stared at Hamish then back at Gabrielle "So you sneak into our basement?" She questioned. Gabrielle's eyes drifted off "Well...when you look at it in that way" She mentioned. Rene shook her head and walked back into the house. Randall, Lilith and Jack stood nearby "What's happening?" Lilith asked. Rene rolled her eyes "Gabrielle snuck into the basement" She informed. Lilith furrowed "Bitch!" She cursed.

Later that night, Gabrielle had moved back in. Rene was fuming, but she was one of them, no matter the situation. Randall helped her move boxes "Will you help me unpack in my room?" She asked in a puppy dog voice. Rene looked up from her laptop "Sure" Randall replied happily. They both took boxes into the room.

Rene shut her laptop with a thud and leaned back "He's too nice!" Rene frustratedly put. Hamish shook his head "You're right...but give her a chance, she might actually behave herself this time" He insisted. Rene sighed "Fine! But if I punch her, it's for good reason" She informed. Hamish nodded "One double vodka and coke coming up!" He shouted. Rene lifted her laptop open "Make that a triple" She informed. Lilith nodded proudly towards her.
