06: the way back home
"Maria, are you alright?"
I flinched and looked around. I was in the nurse's office, still in my uniform. I met a pair of eyes that took my breath away. Patricio, Lia, Synthia— Wonderland. My mind wandered into the vast fields with different colors, fireflies that danced around me— then looked at the person sitting beside me. "What happened?" I asked, he just looked at me with a worried expression. The nurse came inside and checked my temperature— that was when I noticed the throbbing pain in my head. "You kinda fell asleep, I guess, since you didn't kinda know that a shelf collapsed and hit you." He replied shyly and I froze to my spot and looked around again. It was when I realized what happened.
I'm not in Wonderland anymore.
The nurse said I was good to go—— so I went home that afternoon after the guy— who I thought was Patricio, his name is Jack as he had introduced himself— made me promise that I'll rest 'till afternoon. I kinda had no choice since he said that he will feel bad. The sky had displayed its streaks of purple, blue and orange hidden away by the large buildings of the city.
A sight I didn't know I kinda missed.
I stayed in Wonderland for almost a month—— and I woke up a few hours after I got hit by a collapsing bookshelf. I walked home since it's near the school, I was living away from my family who's lived in the countryside. When I arrived back to my apartment, the eerie silence greets me as I placed my bag on the sofa.
I sighed again, I can't count how many times I did today. As I heaved another sigh, I went to the kitchen to cook. I may be used to people cooking for me back in Wonderland, but I need to live. And somehow, this normalcy felt nostalgic to me. Didn't know I'd miss this. I sighed as I stirred the instant noodles in the pot. I wonder how Lia and Synthia are doing.
Are they looking for me?
It was past seven in the evening when I did the assignments that I had during my morning classes with a heavy heart. I'm worrying for those people I had left in Wonderland. Questions like "How they are doing?", "Are they looking for me?" and "How long was I gone in Wonderland time?" but I just shrugged them off and continued my dreaded homework. After finishing them, I immediately fished for the book in my bag, looking for the book.
I sighed in relief when I saw it in my bag. "Thank wonder." I sighed and opened it, hoping that I'll get myself back in Wonderland if I do. But when I opened the book, nothing happened. I groaned in frustration as I skimmed the pages—— it was when my eyes landed on a certain chapter in the book. Patricio's thoughts about me—— as Monalisa Arielle. Curiosity got the best of me, so I laid on my stomach and read the book while the fairy lights were on. It started on when he first saw me— Monalisa.
Way Too Wonderland
Chapter Four
She's something else. She doesn't melt into my stares like most girls. And somehow, my charm ring doesn't work on her and it makes me curious. Today we only had strawberry floats and played a game of crooked chess with her sisters. Lia and Synthia, I think. She's got quite a big family tree and they're the only ones I see hanging around her.
The round table that time was obviously for two—— or at least I thought it was. The table had some enchantment of some sort, as expected from the house Montreal. But it was her smile that captivates me in some way. People avoided lady Monalisa for some reason. They just don't want to hang around her. So I was furious when father had announced that I'll be betrothed to her.
