09: the saying
[Some errors might be ahead.]
Old wonderland. Two words that still left me confused. I looked at the window outside my room— the room they prepared for me. The flowers on the door actually changed from flowers of resentment, they became briars. It now made me wonder why negative flowers are always on the door. But one question got stuck in my mind. Am I wounded? I sighed and got changed into something simple and breatheable. It was peach, with leaves going up the the waist bodice— one that resembles the season, fall.
"Maria?"
For the past two months I've been staying in Wonderland, they continued to refer to me as Lisa. Not Maria. It felt so refreshing to hear it from them. I turned around to see Synthia with a beaming smile. "Thanks a lot!" She squealed as she hugged me tightly. "The necklace was amazing." I sighed. And looked at her. Her smile ever so vibrant. "So, Lia forgot to give you the necklace?" She just nodded and held the dangling jewelry on her neck and rushed to the mirror. "Everything was so busy and kinda tight, so she kinda forgot." She giggled and hugged me again before she rushed out of the room.
As a small question formulated in my mind, the little gem that dangled in my ears tingled— three weeks ago, I was able to morph the gems into something that can be concealed. Therefore, it became an earring. It was another memory. The first one to appear in two months. It was another room, a maid went inside the room, thanking a girl with dark, wavy locks of hair, gran-gran. She looked younger and her hair was a dark shade of blue that it was almost black.
Thank you, my lady. But do you really think it's alright if I wear your jewelry?
It doesn't matter. What's important is that everybody knows that you are my friend.
But, what about young master Jack of house Levanter? He seems to like you a lot. You two complement each other so well.
Let us not talk about such matters, Leanne.
I snapped back to my thoughts when Synthia stood in front of me with a worried expression. "Ari, are you okay? You seemed to have spaced out?" I just nodded and gave her a slight smile. "I'm fine, Synth. I just remembered something." She just looked at me then shrugged it off before leaving the room. "By the way, Pat is looking for you."
Shocked, I immediately combed my hair before I went downstairs. There was a boquet a maid handed me, it also came with a note: "in the garden, my lady" was what it said.
As I entered the garden, everything resembled the fall. From the shades of reds, yellows and oranges to some trees whose leaves had already wilted—— flowers bloomed there. Roses with the color of blood. I stared in awe— until it tingled. The season seems to bring out more memories from the gem. I looked around, looking for Patricio. But I can't see him. Where did he go? But before I could look for him, a memory appeared:
The leaves were dry, all in warm shades and some in brown. It was the season of fall. Where everything seemed to lose it's vibrant remembrance of summer and spring. Gran-gran stood underneath a tree as black as ebony with blood-red roses blooming underneath while she wore a red gown that covered her arms.
"My lady, it's a pleasure to see you." A man in black and red suit came towards her and kissed the back of her palm. She smiled. "You look ravishing as always." He added, making a slight crimson color creep into her cheeks.
"As do you, your grace." She said, holding the book tighter. "What brings the young master of house Levanter pay this lady a visit?" She asked, slight uneasiness evident in her voice but the man didn't seem to notice. He just sat beside her as she had inched away slightly.
"What are you reading?"
"Works of fiction, your grace. I seem to fancy them more than historical books."
"I see. But what is it about?"
"It's..." She paused, nervousness evident in her voice. Like she didn't want to tell him. "...about another world, your grace. I wondered what it could be about, I was curious." She added, not leaving any more details to it. The feathered hat shimmered as the setting sun had illuminated the cover.
"Oh, I see. What is it called?"
"It's The Book Of Wonder, your grace."
I stilled. The book indeed was familiar. It had a royal red hard-bound cover with a shimmery violet feathered hat—— I flinched when someone tapped on my shoulder. When I heard his manly chuckle, I turned around to see the guy I was waiting for. "Patricio!" I squealed as he held me by the waist and raised me above ground taking me by surprise.
"My lady, it's a pleasure to see you."
I looked at him dumbfoundedly. His words... are too familiar. When he realized that I stilled, he looked at me with worry. "Are you alright?" He asked, making me snap back to reality. I sighed, "I am, just... the season is a bit colder than I had expected." I said as he put me down.
"If that is so, then have this."
He took off his coat and placed it around my shoulders. "Better now?" I nodded as I leaned my head in his shoulder with a sigh. "What were you up to the past few days, milady? I'm curious." He asked, his voice sending tingles as it vibrated from his voice box to his shoulders.
"I've been reading, Patricio."
"Really, that's interesting. What do you enjoy reading?"
"Well, books... mostly were books of fiction since I fancy them more than historical ones."
"What about fiction?"
"It makes me see the world in a different way. And while reading, it'll leave you wondering about the world's what if's and could have been's if those were real." I said, as I shifted to find a comfortable spot when he wrapped his shoulders around me. "It leaves me curious." He stopped to look at me. Eyes filled with a mysterious gleam as he said the next words. "My love, curiosity killed the cat."

FantasyAN EXCERPT: It was a long table, filled with teacups and people- most of them were actually animals- chattering. The ambience cozy, like there's some familiarity between them. It was an event that makes me feel slapped in the face with "we're happy"...
