Chapter 11 - The whomping willow

sorry it took me ages but hi i'm back I'll be writing chapters whenever I can but it's nearly my exams and my life is a bit hectic at the moment so I'll see how often I can write updates (:

The next day couldn't have gone any slower. Ginny's classes dragged on and on and Professor Binn's lecture on misuse of wizarding spells in 1803 seemed to go on for hours. Finally after a very tiring lesson detangling Venomous Tentacula  leaves in greenhouse 5 with Professor Sprout the bell rang. Ginny couldn't have cleaned up her gloves and shovel faster and the second she was dismissed the class started walking up to the school led by Professor Sprout. She ran behind a tree and threw on the cloak. Ginny was just adjusting her wand in her robes when a loud thud echoed right to her left and Ginny spun on the spot abruptly to see a giant knot of wood from the whomping willow whack less than an inch in front of her. Ginny looked up.

"Shit" she whispered aloud too scared to scream.

Why on earth had she chosen to put on Harry's cloak behind this tree of all trees she was such and idiot for not checking first.

Ginny slammed herself as flat against the trunk of the tree as she could trying desperately to think of  a way to escape. She could call for help but because she was wearing Harry's precious invisibility cloak and wasn't even suppose for be here that wasn't really much of an option. She would be expelled if the tree now whacking tis beaches against the truck in an attempt to get Ginny didn't kill her first. She couldn't get Harry's cloak confiscated, what if she ripped it? He would never forgive her, it had been his fathers.

Just as she was deciding there was no way out her hand scraped against a small root of the tree and a tunnel opened underneath her.

Ginny fell down the tunnel and through the dark slide until she landed in a boarded up room. Ginny knew what this was - the shrieking shack.

She breathed a sigh of relief, she was safe. she had barely caught her breath however when the realisation hit her. Luna! She was still waiting at the gates for Ginny and considering the sun had not yet set she could easily be seen.

Ginny knew she needed to get back out of the shack and past the tree the only question was how. She pulled the cloak back over herself just in case and climbed back into the slide slowly climbing her way back up the steep slope. She reached the top of the slide and paused her arms on either side of her holding her up. The tree had stopped moving. There was no question of how or even who but Ginny breathed a giant sigh of relief and heaved herself out of the slide hole. She picked up her cloak and ran as fast as she could towards the school gates completely invisible to the passers by. Soon she reached the gates and looked around for Luna.

The ravenclaw was missing and Ginny's fear doubled. She must have been found. Oh no it was all Ginny's fault.

Ginny was about ready to climb into a bush and cry when Luna appeared out of think air taking a sparkly silver headband off her head.

"A headband made of Gobtrottle skin" she said answering Ginny's curiosities.
"Keeps you invisible."

Ginny looked with amazement at Luna, she always had something up her sleeve.

"So I asked you to meet me here," Ginny spoke at last.

"Yes what is it?" Inquired Luna

"Well I'm worried that people have discovered out secret, people have been saying things"

"Well people will always be 'saying things'" replied Luna. "But most of the time they're wrong or just bullshitting".

"No" said Ginny "I can assure you think is worse than that"

And with that Ginny recalled to Luna what Percy had said to her. When Ginny finished speaking she looked at Luna who for the first time in Ginny's knowing her no longer had the calm air around her and looked panic stricken. Well as panicked as Luna could get anyways.

"This isn't good" She said her hands starting to shake "It's all my fault, I can't have Percy knowing because if he does he'll tell everyone about you and about us and we'll be in so much trouble, Umbridge will probably burn us alive"

Luna said this all be rapidly without pausing to breathe and when she did Ginny leaned in and gave the girl a long hug, wrapping her arms around Luna until her breathing returned to normal.

Ginny put her hands on Luna's shoulders and took a deal breath, mostly taking in Lunas facial expression rather than air before speaking. "Luna, I promise you it's not your fault. I love being with you, being around you, you make me so happy and a so much better person. I know things are bad for us right now but i promise i want to be with you, I really do"

Luna loosed in Ginny's embrace and Ginny continued.

"Please don't ever blame this on yourself Luna. It's my fault as much  as anyone's, actually take that back this is all that horrid Umbridge's fault"

Luna looked up and Ginny saw two tears falling down her cheeks. She wiped them away with her hand and looked Luna dead in the eyes.

"I love you Luna Lovegood and I'm telling you this now, things will get better, everything will change one day and we can move to a cottage. We can have cows and chickens and grow a beautiful garden full of magical herbs."

Luna gasped slightly and Ginny did a double take. She had just told Luna she loved her. It was true of course but Ginny panicked for a moment. What if Luna didn't feel the same way? What if she had made her uncomfortable.

"I love you more Ginny"

Ginny opened her mouth to say how relieved she was that Luna felt the same way but was silenced instantly as Luna's lips touched hers. Ginny closed her eyes and let their lips meet. Ginny could feel Luna's soft nose against hers and as they embracesd she felt as though the whole world was spinning. Umbridge, You know who, Malfoy all disappeared and it was just her and Luna hidden under Harry's invisibility cloak.
