When Namjoon had finished his story, sparing no details, he looked at his six best friends and his manager. There was something inside of him that hoped for their approval, but also a primal instinct to want to burn it all down and take a risk on love. He was hoping he wouldn't have to choose.
He looked around the room at the faces of the most important people in his life.
The silence was painful.
Finally Taehyung looked at his friend and said, "You are so weird. You gave her a desk matt?"
The boys chuckled.
Jin added, "Yeah dude. Girls like diamonds, not desk matts. I would have dumped you right then."
Jimin nodded, "I would have gone with Gucci. Who doesn't love some Gucci?"
Namjoon took their ribbing with a smile and a nod of agreement.
"I can't believe she trusted you even when you never took your mask off. Where is her sense of survival? In a zombie apocalypse she is totally going to be the first to die." Yoongi said disapprovingly.
"She did ask me if I was going to murder her." Namjoon conceded.
"That just makes it worse." Yoongi replied.
Namjoon got up and started pacing back and forth.
He stopped and turned to his brothers, "This is stupid. She's stupid. I am definitely stupid. This is a terrible idea. We are exactly where we want to be with the band. We reached for the stars and they are finally within reach. The entire world is watching. I can't slip up now. We've worked too hard. We've made too many sacrifices to get this far."
"You are right." The boys, surprised by Jungkook's agreement, turned to look at him in shock.
He looked at his friends and then looked at Namjoon. "We HAVE made too many sacrifices. Too many. It's time we tip the balance back the other way. It's time we live as we teach others to live. With self care and self love. You deserve to pursue your happiness just as much as anyone else."
The boys nodded with agreement.
Their manager, who had remained silent up to that point, spoke up, "So how do we do this? Do we announce it to the world and take the backlash or do you date her in secret and see if we can keep this under the radar?"
"I won't ask her to be invisible. I can't."
The boys nodded solemnly.
"Then we suit up and fight." JHope said.
"We fight." add Jungkook.
The boys looked to their leader and said together, "We fight."
Yoongi got up and moved to the dining table. "Every good war starts with the right strategy. Let's get to work." Jungkook fell back on the couch, clutching his heart and looking at the ceiling, "This is the best day of my life."
Taehyung and Jimin shook their heads, "You do realize only Namjoon gets to kiss her right?"
The boys said goodbye to their manager, who left to take care of some things, and gathered around the table with Yoongi as scribe.
Yoongi wrote on a piece of paper.
Operation: Get Rapmon a Girlfriend. Code Name: Isabel.
Hoseok laughed, "Isabel? Why Isabel?"
Yoongi replied, "I named my watch Isabel. She's is always there for me."
"You named your watch?"
"Your watch is a girl?"
"Named Isabel?"
Yoongi shrugged, "Live and let live."
"Code name Isabel, it is!"
Unfortunately, the boys didn't get to far in their planning before they were back at work. A photo shoot for a sponsor. They boys were pros by now, but it still meant it was a long day. Namjoon didn't get back to his bed until just after midnight.
He grabbed his phone. She was probably asleep. He thought he'd send a text, so she'd get it first thing in the morning. Something simple. Something to test the waters and see how she was doing.
"Are you ok?"
He smiled and gave himself a mental pat on the back. It wasn't too invasive. It showed he cared. What could go wrong?
.....she texted back.
Apparently a lot could go wrong.
He didn't know what to do, but he felt that whatever he did, he wanted to do face to face. He needed to see her. His phone buzzed in his hand.
"Coward."
He imagined she was making a judgement, but he took it as a challenge.
If he was going to prove her wrong, he needed to be brave. Operation Isabel was a go.
