I force my feet into my Vans and put a hoodie on paired with a pair of black tights. I pull my hair up into a messy bun, struggling to get a grip on the tie around my wrist.
I carefully crawl out of my, already open, bedroom window, trying not to make a sound, after yet another meaningless fight went down in this house.
It's currently 23:20. My 'parents' would kill me if they found out that I was heading outside this time of night, but they don't know I've been doing it since I was twelve.
Not that they really care, now do they.
I walk over the slightly damp lawn, clammy from the night's dew, and jump onto my skateboard as soon as I hit the pavement. I internally curse myself for getting my sneakers all muddy. I would have loved to listen to music on my earphones while I skate, but silly me lost one of them this week.
Maybe I should start with a slight introduction. Hi, my name is Gaia Ora, I was born in a small town in the middle of nowhere and has been living here since then. Not much more to tell really, the story worth telling only begins here, in this book.
I continue to skate through the streets aimlessly in complete silence, enjoying the feeling of make-believe freedom and the crisp night air.
I close my eyes and feel the lone smile pulling at my face.
This is where I wanna be. Gone and away from that house.
Maybe I should go to Nova's place, I thought for a moment, but stopped my trail of thoughts.
She's probably already asleep and I wouldn't want to just intrude the poor girls sleep.
Her advice to me would have been to 'try to ignore them' or give some seemingly effortless solution like, 'just come stay with me'.
Nova's my only good friend. I am not really big on things like socialising... And I overthink way too much, at all the wrong times, which makes everything thousand times more difficult for a girl like me.
It use to bother me how other people could easily get along with others and make hundred's of friends when I could measly make one, but then I realised that one great friend is all I could need.
I lean to the right and turn into an unknown road. It's much darker than the other streets seeing as though the street lights were off and looks very suspiciously lifeless.
Nah ah, I ain't gonna die today.
I stop, pick up my board and make a turn to head back. Maybe I should just go back 'home'. It's late and I do unfortunately have school tomorrow.
I was so caught up in my thoughts that I didn't hear the white van swiftly pull up behind me.
The doors slam open and two masked men jump out sprinting straight at me.
I was about to abandon my skateboard and just make a run for it, when a bag was pulled over my head and I was dragged backwards on my heels. They put a piece of cloth into my mouth, trying to choke and silence me. It had a strong scent on it. I think I've seen this happen in movies once or twice. Chloroform or something like that.
Not good at all.
They wanted me to inhale it so I can pass out. I didn't though. I thought against every fibre in my body screaming to breathe air.
What is happening right now?!
I feel myself being lifted up by the two men. I try to squirm out of their death grip, but to no avail.
I successfully spit out the cloth that was blocking my mouth.
"Let me go!" I shout at the strangers holding me down.
I kick my leg out hard and instantly knew I succeeded kicking him somewhere sensitive when he let go of a part of me. I turn around and try to fight off the guy that was behind me. I bash my fists wildly at him, hoping my luck was in and I'd hit something.
I was still trying to get away and cry out for help when I felt a weird cold sensation spreading from my neck to my whole body. "No." I breathe out.
My body goes limp as I fall to the cold floor as my eyes cloud over. Then an unwelcomed darkness takes over and I am a goner.
