It's been a month since the decision was finalised and seeing as it's summer the move was made slightly easier. So as we parked in the driveway of our new forever home, I looked up and was mesmerised by the sun, the house, the overall quietness of suburban living that was so much more breathtaking than London could ever be. We walk up to the door and Andrew steps out, greeting us and hugging my mum tightly before re-introducing himself to me. I shake his hand timidly before he looks behind his shoulder into the house, calling for a 'Luke'? I look at my mum confused but she ignores me and just shoots me a smile as I awkwardly shift from one foot to the other waiting for this 'Luke'.A silhouette appears in the hallway, fast approaching the front door towards the trio outside and I try to make out who this person even is. But before I knew it a very tall, blonde haired blue eyed boy was leaning against the door frame, smiling at me and my mum. And before I can ask any questions Andrews speaks up,
"ladies" he says playfully, "meet my son, Luke".The boy gives us a small smile and wave and I feel almost awkward looking at him as I return the smile and divert my attention to anything but him. After a few more awkward moments of mum avoiding my gaze Luke helps me with my luggage and starts on a tour of the house as insisted by Andrew, but all I can think about is how I know I have to live with this boy under one roof with no prior warning.
He begins showing me around the house as instructed, and my first thought as soon as we walked in was that this place was huge. The thought of my home back in England crept into my mind, which quite frankly is nothing compared to this absolute mansion. We quickly entered into what I guess is the living room, as Luke wasn't actually saying anything or being much of a tour guide. I awkwardly looked at the massive L shaped leather couch in front of me. It was positioned right in front of a hanging flat screen which lay comfortably above a gorgeous exposed brick mantle. Luke then swiftly led us into the kitchen which was also stunning, with white marble counter tops and a large island fit to hold at least ten people around at a meal. He again stayed quiet and began walking up a large staircase. I shyly followed behind him, not able to see much past his tall figure. As we came up onto the landing he again showed me quickly into each room, nothing too exciting just big double beds and wooden closets, followed by one office and two more bathrooms.
He ends the tour at my new bedroom, walking in and seating himself on the bed already put together for me. He pats the space next to him after seeing my frozen body still in the doorframe, indicating that I sit down with him. I do as he asks and we both just stare at the wall in front of us, an awkward tension looming in the air.
'So...' Luke starts, attempting to break the ice.
'I never caught your name?' he turns his head to look at me
'Emma'. I say back, trying to sound nonchalant.
'And how old are you Emma?' he asks, clearly catching onto the fact that I am anything but nonchalant right now.
'Uh-17, and you?' I stammered, looking up at him.
'19' he says, with a smile that I swear could be classified as a smirk plastered across his face.
'Well, Emma, I should leave you to unpack' he says as he lifts himself up, the mattress inflating back up from where he was sat.
But just before he leaves the room he looks at me, and again I swear he's smirking.
