The next morning Jimmy, George, and I got up bright and early to attend the team meeting that Shanahan requested we all attend. I really wasn't sure what the purpose of this meeting was, but I guess I'd find out soon enough.
The three of us car pooled to Levi's for the meeting. Once I parked the car we all exited and walked into the stadium.
"Did Shanahan tell you guys what this meeting is about?" I asked George and Jimmy as they shook their heads before replying.
"Nope." George answered flatly.
"No clue." Jimmy answered after George as we stepped foot onto the field.
The team was gathered mid field with Shanahan and the rest of the coaching staff surrounding them. Once Shanahan spotted the three of us approaching he spoke.
"There they are! Welcome Jimmy, George, and Camila." Shanahan stated before smiling slightly. Claire approached the three of us happily before she spoke.
"Hey brotha, Jimmy, Mila. How are y'all doin' today?" Claire asked us happily.
"Oh hey Claire bear, before I forget do you mind coming back to the house with us later? Kiara and I have a special announcement we wanna tell all of you." George asked Claire curiously.
This was the first I heard of a 'special announcement'. I looked over at Jimmy and furrowed my brow in confusion hoping he would know what George was talking about. Jimmy simply shrugged at me in response, clearly he was just as clueless as I was.
"Yeah, I'd be happy to." Claire answered George with a happy smile.
"Alright, now that everyone's here let's bring it in." Shanahan instructed as Claire and I joined the coaches behind Shanahan.
"I've called you all here today to tell you how proud I am of all of you. You fought your asses off Sunday, but unfortunately it just wasn't our night. There are some things we need to improve on, but we'll focus on that later." Shanahan stated before continuing. "Another reason why I've called you all here is to say thank you. Thank you for an amazing season, it's been a hell of a ride. Like I said before, Sunday night just wasn't our game. But before we regroup and talk about the flaws and mistakes made during the Super Bowl, I've decided to give you all a two month vacation. I wanna give you all plenty of time to get your minds right before we start talking X's and O's again so we can hit the ground running." Shanahan stated finishing his speech.I was honestly shocked by this. Usually every team gets about a month off, but it's never entirely a vacation. Normally the players do some type of exercise whether it's recovery or conditioning.
It was sweet of Shanahan to put his team first. That was one of the many reasons why I loved Shanahan, he wasn't only a great coach, but a great guy. I turned to Claire with wide eyes before I spoke.
"I didn't see that coming." I stated quietly, yet surprised.
"Nope, not in a million years." Claire agreed with a blank expression as I approached the teamed gathered in mid field. I wanted to tell the team how proud I am of them, and how much I enjoyed getting to know them all this season before they left Levi's.
