The time I spend with Solange was peaceful. Filled with amazing conversations and it seemed that the pictures I took became more beautiful than before. I don't think I could remember when I was happier than I was with Sol as my roommate. We were friends, even how the word flowed easily surprised me. Nothing was ever an issue. We could just be honest and talk about anything. The other great thing was that we were just like sisters; personal space was a non-issue but even so we respected each other's privacy.
Solange was a true genius. She researched and studied nonstop. She read psychology book after psychology book and still found the time to skate. Every day she had a new trick up her sleeve, and I had a new picture to add to my collection. The only breaks her routine had was when there was a Photo show in campus. She didn't miss one, and it made me feel happy. Feeling that I had her support meant a lot to me. It was like having my pictures come to life when I would see her smile and blush a little at the picture of her skating down a rail. Her only weakness was experiments. She was an ace when it came to research on other experiments. Test were her forte, but the experiments kept her at night.
I tried to ignore Solange's rustling of sheets as she turned on her bed not being able to sleep. It was 2 a.m. and I was sleep deprived. She kept moving, pushing, pulling, grunting, and it was getting on my last nerve. Finally I couldn't take it when I heard paper's shuffling. "Sol! Chill and sleep!"
I heard her pause and suck in her breath, I caught her by surprise. "I thought you were sleeping." She said in a whisper.
"How can I sleep when you won't stop moving? I swear I can tell how many times you moved that bed-spread." I got out of bed and turned on the light to find her sitting on the floor Indian style. She had papers all around her. Sol looked up at me and smiled, embarrassed to be caught. They look on her eyes was like pleading, to not be mad at her. How can one be mad at someone like her? I sure couldn't. Taking a deep breath to steady my temper, I sat in front of her and rubbed her thigh.
"What's wrong? What's on your mind?" I asked her and started closing her books and placing her notes in a neat pile. Hey I'm a neat freak, to some point.
With teary eyes, Sol just shook her head. "I'm sorry. I'm such a wreck."
I laughed a little and placed my hand on her shoulder. "Yea and eventually you will drive me nuts." This only made her hide her face in embarrassment.
"I used to drive my parents nuts too." She said rubbed her eyes.
"So how did they deal with it?" I would do anything to help her if it meant I would get some sleep.
I was rubbing her shoulder, and was digging into one of the knots on her shoulder which made her moan slightly. She blushed immediately and shook her head again. "It was stupid. No need to bring you into this."
"I'm fully awake now, might as well help you out." I smiled and patted her head. Sol looked at me, hesitating, but eventually sighed and biting her lip she stood up and looked down at me. I stood up and stared at her, waiting.
"M-my mom would hold me until I fell asleep." She turned away, embarrassed.
I wasn't exactly the touchy-touchy type, and this was beyond my boundaries. I'd lost the image I had of Sol being a geek. She was just Solange, the girl who was honest until the end no matter how silly the matters sounded. "Oh."
"Sorry, shouldn't have told you. I'm sure I made you uncomfortable. Let's just forget this ever happened ok?" She said looking at me with pleading eyes to forget.
I was about to answer her, when all of the sudden she was grabbing her sweater and was heading for the door.
"Hey!" I grabbed her arm and pushed her against the door. "Where do you think you're going?!"
