The applause was deafening as Trish and I concluded our presentation of the project L.O.V.E. As the press took their photos and interviewed Goldin, Trish hugged me and kissed my cheek before practically dancing towards her family who had come to the photo show. We had a new understanding after that night of release. It was more honest, more real, and I was sure it would be a friendship to last a lifetime.

Solange smiled at me, her eyes moist, as I made my way to her. The curl of her lips and the tense excitement in the way she stood said that was amazing. I saw as a tear fall from her eye and instantly grabbed the camera from one of the journalists. I took a picture of Sol as she wiped the tear away and smiled at me. Pure love, I thought and smiled back. “So, what did you think?” I asked once I was right in front of her. The journalist asked for his camera and I handed it back to him, but didn’t take my eyes off of Solange.

She simply smiled and giggled. Everything she did spoke volumes on how she felt about the show. Sol caressed my cheek and I held her hand closer to me. “Thanks to you my dream has become a reality.”

The project had to be about love seen through a lens, and after what happened with Sol I realized I had seen that love. The photo show was a collection of all the pictures I took the moment Solange came into my life, and now I was in a partnership with one of the most famous photographers of our times, Nan Goldin.

I looked into her eyes and couldn't help catching my breath. Without her glasses, she really did have the most beautiful eyes. Her lips curled into the tenderest most loving smile I had ever seen. "I loved your pictures."

I snaked my arm around her and her body did that tremble that will always make my stomach do flip-flops. I nuzzled her neck and hoped everyone was watching. They knew me as Ms. "thanks, not interested", but the way our bodies fit so effortlessly together affirmed, Thanks, I'm taken. I kissed my way back up to her lips before smiling into Solange’s misty eyes. I was captivated in those beautiful eyes.

“Hey Melody, Goldin and the crew want to go out for drinks, you guys in?” I turned to look at Trish. She seemed happy and I was glad. I looked at Solange and back at Trish, “Yeah, we’ll get there.”

Trish waved back at us and left to tell the others that we would be joining them for drinks. Solange looked at me, a little uneasy. “You sure we should go?” She was fidgeting with her hoddie’s zipper.

I wrapped an arm around her shoulders and kissed her cheek, “Why wouldn’t it be alright? Plus we deserve to celebrate and I don’t mean only for the photo show.” I nuzzled her ear and hugged her tight.

“Alright, but I’ll drive.” She took my hand in hers and squeezed it tight as she guided me to her car. It seemed that she was walking slowly so I just pulled her and practically danced towards the car. I let go of her hand and started twirling around like a little girl, I was ecstatic. Everything had gone perfect. The photo show had been a complete success, but most importantly I had the most amazing and loving girl by my side. Nothing is going to ruin this day, I thought to my self.

“Melody! Watch out!!” I heard Solange scream and I turned to look at her. It seemed that at that moment everything was in slow motion. She had a horrified look in her eyes and I glanced behind me. The car speeding on my way was the last thing I saw.

“NO! PLEASE GOD! NO, DON’T TAKE HER! NO!!” I heard someone scream in the distance. I tried to move but my body was numb and cold. It felt like I was on someone’s lap. Slowly I opened my eyes and looked up at Solange’s crying face. Her tears fell on my cheeks and slid down.

Why are you crying? I wanted to ask but nothing came out. Seeing her crying made my heart ache.

“SOMEBODY PLEASE CALL AN AMBULANCE! PLEASE!!” She continued screaming at people but her crying didn’t stop.
