Plern's parents had arranged her marriage with Korn's family. At university, she found out Korn was gay and in a relationship. Plern was furious. Korn was her man.
Korn had been with his lover Knock for months. They had grown up together, and even...
As promised, Korn took Knock home to meet his parents and break off his arranged marriage to Plern on the weekend. It, however, did not go as planned.
"Mom, Dad" Korn started as Knock sat beside him on the settee. "I have something to tell you." He held on to Knock's hand tightly.
His father had a worried look on his face and kept glaring at his mother. "What? Just spit it out."
"I'm gay. I'm not going to marry Plern or any other girl you try to set me up with." Korn said bluntly. He held up Knock and his intertwined hands. "Knock and I are a couple."
His dad stood up. Pointing to the door, "Get out and don't come back." He walked out of the room.
His mom sighed and started to cry. "Plern was here last night and told us. Why didn't you tell us before she did, Korn?"
Korn sighed and turned to Knock. "Poisonous snake. I told you she'd come and strike at me when I least expected it."
"Whatever. I made the mistake of telling that bitch when I was going to tell you and she took upon herself it to tell you first. You can believe that she's a nice girl all you want, Mom. But that girl's evil. I have never liked her and even if I was straight, I'd never marry her."
Korn turned to leave and said, "Oh, I will leave everything here you guys bought, but I'm picking up a few things I bought with my own money. I assume Dad will now stop paying my tuition. I have allowed for that. Don't worry about me. I'm a bear."
Korn and Knock entered his old room and filled a small duffle bag. Korn gave a small sigh and said, "Let's go, Knock Baby. I doubt I'll ever be back." He gave his old football jersey a light tap of farewell and softly closed the door.
They didn't bother to say farewell, just left. Knock sighed, knowing it was his turn to tell his parents. Hopefully, it was better than Korn's. Plern didn't know his parents.
Arriving back in Bangkok, only Knock's mom was home. She was delighted to see the boys. She bustled around the house, gathering snacks and drinks and then settled down in the living room.
"Alright, honey, what is so important you came to see me?" She asked, with a huge smile on her face.
"Mom, I'm dating someone and they're really important to me. I wanted to introduce you to them." Knock had thought a lot about how to say the introduction.
"Ohhh, it's about time you brought a girl home!" she cooed. "You're becoming quite old to just start seriously dating!"
"Mom, it's not a girl."
"What? If it's not a girl then that leaves boys and that's just silly." She replied. "Boys don't date other boys."
"Yes, mom they do. Boys can even love other boys." Knock insisted.
Just then his dad came home. He was the more serious of the two, he tended to keep his flighty wife grounded, and explained hard concepts.
"Sweetheart," his mom yelled, "Quick! Quick! I need you. Oh thank god, you're home." her hands twisted, and she grabbed for his, tugging him to sit down next to her. "Knock has just said something confusing!"
Sighing, his dad looked at Knock and raised his eyebrow. "You're gay, aren't you? Is Korn your boyfriend now?"
Korn and Knock shared a look of utter relief and nodded together. Korn spoke up, "Yes, sir."
"How long have you been dating?" He leaned back into the couch and crossed his legs, studying the young men.
Korn once again took the lead, "6 months now."
"I'm going to assume you're serious about my son since you're telling us. Have you told your parents?"
"Yes, sir."
"How did your stuck up old man take it?" Knock's father now leaned in with intense interest.
Korn smothered a laugh. Stuck up described his dad perfectly. "Not well, sir. I've been kicked out, I'm sure I'll be disowned for being gay."
"You love Knock enough to loose your family?" Dad paused hearing this. That stupid asshole, kicking his own flesh out of his home. Being gay wasn't a choice, it was who they were.
"I've loved Knock since I was 11 or 12." Korn admitted. "I don't think I could love anyone else." He looked at Knock and then said, "I would never stop him from moving on, if he found someone else, but for me, there is no one else."
"Well, honey," Dad said, "I guess we have two sons now. You always wanted more children."
"Sweetheart!" Mom sighed, "I still don't understand who Knock's dating!"
The three men laughed as Dad patted her knee and said softly, "I'll explain it all to you later, honey, okay?"
The next day, the Plern's family and Korn's parents had dinner. Plern had to hid her snarl when she found out that her best laid plans had backfired. Korn was indeed the most stubborn man. He choose exile and possibly being disowned rather than being married to her!
What was the use of playing nice with these annoying old people any more? None. If she didn't need to lure Korn, then sucking up to dried up prunes had no value.
Reaching the end of her very short rope, Plern stood (rudely) and said, "You're boring me. I'm going to the bar. Have fun discussing your medications!" Dropped her napkin on her untouched plate of food and stomped out of the restaurant.
Plern's mother sighed in disappointment, again. They had high hopes that with marriage, she would settle down but somehow Korn had always seen how bad tempered Plern was, and had refused to have anything to do with her.
"Well," she sighed, "That's my daughter. Truly, a nasty piece of work. Korn was my last hope, you know."
Twisting her fork in her hands, she looked at her best friend and bowed her head. "I'm sorry for lying to you about her being a good girl. She just set her heart on Korn and I knew you'd not approve if you knew what she was actually like."
Korn's mom died a little for not trusting her son. All those arguments about Plern being a good girl because her best friend wouldn't lie to her. And now there was no way to apologize! His father and Plern had to seen to that!
Angrily, she rose from the table, "What a damn mess your child created! I can't even talk to my son about this! You're just as nasty as that bitch."
With tears rolling down her face, she left her husband sitting with Plern's parents, and no one could look at each other.
