It’s been a mouth since I ran away and since I met them. I had Sugar on my lap and I was telling her scary stories. She kept playing with my hair.
Why did you cut it? Her voice echoed in my head.
Because I wanted to. It was getting annoying. I answered. She pulled on a strand.
I like it long, but short looks good on you too.
I gave her a laugh. She giggled too.
“You want to hear something funny about Shino.” I gave her a look.
"Sure," I said. She covered my mouth and hushed me.
Okay, one time, when we were walking in the woods he got into a fight with a porcupine. I laughed.
No way.
Way, he didn’t win though. He came home covered in needles. We had to pull them out. He was not happy. We both laughed.
"But you can’t tell him that I told you," she warned. Just then, Shino walked up.
"Don’t tell who, what?" he asked suspicious. I looked at sugar and we both laughed. Shino looked at Sayu.
"What’s wrong with them?" He asked. Sayu raised her shoulders.
"They have been looking at each other and laughing. I think they made up their own world," Sayu said. We looked at Shino again and snickered. He gave a look.
"I have a feeling that their talking about me." He stomped his foot. Sayu smirked.
"Now, why would they?" she teased. I looked at her and she gave us a wink.
"Dinners ready!" Mei yelled from the kitchen. I stood up and Sugar jumped on my back. I fixed her, so she wouldn’t fall off.
"Onward Kiki! To the food!" She giggled. I gave a laugh and started for the kitchen. Mei stopped us.
"Sugar, down. Yuki, this way," she ordered.
I shrugged my shoulders and took my seat. Sugar sat in front of me. She didn't look happy. I admit, I grew attached to that kid. Mei and Ember came in with the food and we all started eating. I was grabbing a roll of bread, when I saw Sugar missing. I looked around. I stood up to get a better look. I sat back down, and then something jumped into my lap. Sugar sat, munching on a piece of bread. I gave her a smile and let her stay. Mei walked in and growled with frustration.
"Sugar, you have your-" she began before Sayu cut her off.
"Oh, leave them alone. It’s not like we all didn't see this coming." We all laughed. She let out one more grunt and let it go.

It was late when I walked into my room. I laid down on my bed and closed my eyes.
In my dream, I saw my dad and the dojo on fire. He was screaming my name. I woke with a jump. I was sweaty.
What was that about? I asked myself. I sat for a few more minutes, then grabbed my jacket and went out the door. I came to the dojo and stopped. The office light was on and dad was sitting at his desk. I gave a smile. He picked up one of my pictures and stared at it for a long time. He misses me? I thought. My smile faded away. I wanted to run up and give him a hug, to tell him I’m safe, but I didn’t. It started pouring rain, and I started home, my new home. I walked by the riverbed and saw something moving. I walked up.
"Are you okay?" I asked. It looked at me and gave off this hissing sound. I backed up. "Don’t worry, I’m not going to hurt you," I whispered. It calmed.
I put my hand on it. A bird. I felt around its body. I gave it a sad look and picked it up. It hissed, then cradled in my arms. I gave it (sorry, I hate calling her or him an it. It is so mean.) a smile and walked. I walked up to the house and walked in. I jumped when I saw everyone in the living room.
"Where the hell did you go?” Sayu yelled at me. I pointed to a piece of paper.
"I left a note." I said. She gave me a dirty look while Shino gave the ‘don’t go outside alone' lecture. I never listen to those. Instead, I walked up to Sugar.
"I’m sorry for worrying you. Want to help me though? I found a bird."
Her face lit up when I showed her the bird. I got a better look at it and found out it was a falcon. It was big. Female. Got to love the Nature Channel. Sugar read my thoughts.
"What are you going to name her?" she asked. I gave her a shrug.
"I don’t know yet. I’ll think of something soon enough."
She gave me a smile and I went back to the bird. She’s beautiful. Her feathers were brown with a hint of gray and black speckles, and her eyes are a gold-brown. Sadly, one of her wings were broken. Shino brought me some tools, and I started working on her wing. She bit me twice, but I fixed it.
"As long as no one touches her, she will heal perfectly." I announced.
Sugar gave off an excited smile. I sat down in the bean chair. The falcon walked over and cooed at me. I rubbed her head.
"I think she’s saying sorry for biting you," Sugar said. I looked at her and laughed.
"Oh, now you speak bird, huh?" I snickered. She laughed and sat beside me. The falcon jumped in my lap and fell asleep.
"Did you decide what to call her?" Sugar asked. I sighed.
So inpatient.
"I’m going to call her, Captain.” I said. She gave me a funny look.
"Why." I looked at her and yawned.
"'Cause, she likes giving orders instead of taking them."
At that moment she screeched. We both laughed, " I think she likes it. Captain, what a pretty name." she yawned and fell asleep. I closed my eyes and fell asleep with her.
