3rd Person POV:

Elijah and Vee are cuddled up together on the hospital bed gazing over at their son in the clear bassinet next to the bed.

Elijah keeps tightening his hold on her every few minutes just to reassure himself he really does have her in his arms again.

"Have you thought of any names," he softly asks her as he moves some of her fallen hair behind her ear.

"I have, I just hope you'll be alright with it... I'm slightly worried you might find it insensitive."

"How could a name be insensitive?" Elijah asks.

Vee takes Elijah's hand as she tilts her head back to look at him, "I want to name him Henry Richard Ellis."

"And you think I'd find offense in you wanting our son to carry your last name instead of mine? Granted the Mikaelson name isn't widely known but to those who it is known..." Elijah shakes his head unable to bear the thought, "I believe giving the child the name Ellis is the safest thing to do."

"I wasn't referring to the last name," Vee corrects him.

Elijah thinks for a moment, "What's insensitive about Henry Rich-" finally it dawns on him,

"You want to name him after Henrik?"

"I know he carries the wolf gene and if you think it's a bad idea-" Elijah interrupts her,

"I think it would be the most sublime honor of my life to have our child carry my brother's name," Elijah tells her sincerely and gently places a kiss upon her lips before resting his forehead against hers.

*knock-knock* The door slowly opens,

"Hey, are you guys ready for visitors yet?" Rebekah asks as she pops her head in,

"Sure come on in," Vee instructs and the door opens wider as Rebekah, Matt, and Tyler walk in the room.

Elijah detangles himself from Vee and moves around to the other side of the bed and lifts baby Henrik out of the bassinet, cradling him to his chest.

He walks over to their visitors, "I would like you all to meet Henry Richard Ellis, otherwise to be called Henrick."

Rebekah looks up surprised before a tear comes to her eye, "really?" she asks.

Elijah nods and motions for her to take the infant.

Rebekah looks down at the child adoringly, "hello there, I'm your aunt Bex. I'm going to be the one you come to when you need a ride home from a party and you're too drunk to drive."

"Lovely," Elijah says dryly,

"Alright, let me see." Matt says as he takes the baby in his arms now, "I seem to remember promising to be the best Uncle this kid could ask for,"

Vee smiles looking at everyone crowded around the baby, a week ago she never would have thought this would be possible, that her child would be born and immediately surrounded by love and... and family.

"Wait am I an Uncle too, or am I his great uncle... second cousin?" Tyler asks confused about his relation to the baby,

"Let's just stick with uncle," Vee says

"Hey, I hope you don't mind but I texted Mason to let him know."

Vee shakes her head, "No of course not, did he text back?"

"He called actually, wanted to make sure you were both doing okay,"

Vee is slightly surprised by this, "Oh, that's nice."

"He actually wanted me to ask if you'd be alright with me sending him a pic?" Tyler says holding up his phone,

"Oh," Vee looks over to Elijah before responding "um, sure."

Tyler quickly snaps a picture of the baby who has made his way back into Rebekah's arms.

"So Ellis, huh?" Matt asks

"Yeah, we don't feel comfortable giving him the name Mikaelson and making him a target and now that you know I'm not really a Donovan... just figured I'd give him my name," Vee explains.

Matt nods, "makes sense,"

The baby starts getting fussy so Elijah carries him over to Vee and she is quick to try to get him to nurse,

"aaaand that's my cue to leave," Matt says making a hasty exit.

"Rebekah, can I speak with you," Elijah asks stopping her from also leaving,

Rebekah hands back and waits to hear what Elijah has to say, "I wanted to thank you for finding me, if I had missed this..."

"You're welcome but I can't really take the credit, Vee's the one who figured out Finn must have stashed you someplace close and familiar to him and wolf Nik definitely beat me in figuring out the specific location."

Elijah nods, "Yes, about... wolf-Nik."

"Ah yes, our Mother found a coven of witches willing to overlook her vampiric state and cursed our brother with remaining in his wolf form except on a full moon."

Elijah is shocked by that,

"So far we haven't been able to reverse it or find a loophole," Rebekah adds.

Elijah nods, "We'll figure out something."

Elijah POV:

My clever girl is the one responsible for my rescue, of course, she is. I close the door and head back over to her and watch as she nourishes our son.

Henrik, she has named him in honor of my deceased brother, just when I thought I couldn't love and admire her more.

"I love you," I find myself having said the words aloud before making the conscious decision to actually say them to her,

She looks up to me and smiles, "I love you."

I walk over to the 2 most important people in my life now and sit on the edge of the bed.

"I couldn't help but notice your necklace," I tell her, "You know I intended for you to wear the ring upon your finger."

"You never technically asked me and I wasn't about to jinx anything," she responds.

"Well, far be it for me to have to make you wait any longer," I lean forward and unclasp the necklace from around her neck and slide off the ring.

"I know it's a bit bizarre looking but I forged the band myself and just as I was going to attempt to cut and polish the stone it struck me that as an ode to you I should leave it as it is."

she smirks at me as she lifts Henrik up and gently pats his back, "are you saying you thought the stone should be as unpolished as I am?"

I grin, "I thought leaving it as it is, stunning, unique, exceptional... and without any artifice would be the perfect way to honor its recipient."

I stand up off the bed and get down into a kneeling position, I feel quite vulnerable at the moment if I'm being honest, although just then the baby burps and causes Lavender and I to giggle, relieving a bit of the tension.

"Lavender Victoria Ellis, from the moment I first saw you I knew you were something special. You were a bizarre mix of fearless and kind, I have been amazed at your courage and truly moved by every act of generosity I was lucky enough to witness. I am used to feeling superior, infallible, special... but with you, I have never felt more perfectly average."

She smiles at that and I take a breath before continuing,

"You have reminded me of the man underneath all the Original madness, it's a man I wasn't sure even still existed but he does. And he is completely and irrevocably in love with you, so please will you marry me and never let me forget about him again?"

The pause between my last word and her answer seems to drag on forever but finally, I hear the greatest word in the English language-

"Yes."
