Withered Hearts

When Hayley arrived home, everyone came rushing towards her. They were asking her questions, expecting answers but she gave none.

That is until Klaus stepped up with his arms crossed. He was worried and Hayley knew that.

She sighed before speaking.

"I saw Aurora. We met." Hayley said and crossed her arms. Bonnie came over and placed a hand on her shoulder.

"You okay? Yeah. Thanks Bonnie. I just need some time to myself." Hayley smiled half heartedly. She pushed past them and walked upstairs to Klaus and Hayley's temporary room. She sat on the bed with her knees on her chest and her head on them. She wrapped her arms around her legs and sighed.

She couldn't stop thinking of what Aurora said to her.

She heard someone come into the room, and spoke quietly. "I thought I said I wanted to be alone. You did, but I don't care." She looked up and saw Rebekah.

"Rebekah? I thought you left. Leaving you with Aurora? Not a chance." Rebekah smiled and sat down next to Hayley and pulled her hair behind her ear.

"Tell me what's going on, love. What's bothering you? When I went to go see Aurora, she said some things that made me rethink a whole bunch of things.

She found out about my witch powers. And she reminded me about the pain I went through just to control my powers.

My innocence was stripped at 5. And I was scarred from then on." Tears welled in Hayley's eyes, and Rebekah pulled her into a hug.

A stray tear fell from her face.

"She called me damaged goods. Oh darling...," Hayley cried on Rebekah's shoulder, feeling the pain come rushing into her.

Everyone from downstairs heard their conversation and felt terrible. They haven't ever asked how Hayley coped with the pain of having loosing her parents and her innocence at a way too young age.

It's like they didn't need to. Like she were at peace with herself and her past trauma. But no one really gets over that do they?

It's not something that can be forgiven easily. Or let go easily. And when they heard Hayley sobbing, it was then that they knew that Hayley was never okay.

And she wouldn't be ever again.

[An hour later]

When Hayley had calmed down enough, they walked downstairs ready to make a game plan. What they didn't expect was to see Katherine.

"Katherine? What the hell are you doing here? I came because I came here to give you a message.

From Tristan."

Hayley shifted very confused. Katherine walked up to her and handed her a note.

Hayley unfolded it and gasped.

She stumbled back, dropping the note. It was words in blood. She automatically knew it was Cleo's and saw a piece of skin on it.

Hayley covered her mouth, and soon Klaus was standing before her.

He was gripping her arms as everyone saw the note. They looked up at Hayley and saw hot tears brimming in her eyes.

"It's Cleo's...they mutilated her. They skinned off the one part of her she loved the most...

Hayley what are you talking about? When Cleo and I were 16, she got a tattoo exactly like the birthmark on the back of my right shoulder.

She said it was a sign we'd be together forever and no one could break our bond."

Hayley said sadly feeling pain coming over her. She wanted it to stop. She can't handle all this pain.

It hurt so badly. She fell to her knees, sobbing into her hands. Why did they always come for her? What was so special  about her?

She was like any other person. She was tragically wounded by demons she couldn't escape.

Klaus held her closely, feeling her pain. He had to do something about that. He pulled away and looked in Hayley's eyes.

"Hey. Listen to me. I need you to stop crying okay? I promise you Little Wolf that we will take down those who have wronged you and Cleo.

But first, we must think of a plan okay?" Hayley nodded. "Okay." She mumbled and stood with him by her side.

Katherine stood there and sighed. "I came to say that I realized I want no part of this. I want to live my life.

And I'll help you guys take down Aurora and Tristan. Katherine...,"

Damon mumbled, and Katherine crossed her arms.

"I overheard that they're planning on taking you out one by one. Tyler first because he's the most dangerous. Then the rest of the vampires, oldest first.

And they planned killing Bonnie too. They're trying to kill all of you then do something with Hayley.

They didn't specify but, it's going to be pretty bad.

Well then," Hayley sighed wiping her leftover tears. "We have our work cut out for us don't we?"
