The next morning, Jingyi was awake at 4:30 and Zizhen was sleeping on the ground peacefully, Jingyi quickly but quietly got out of bed, he didn't want to wake up Zizhen, he then put on his robes and ran through the door, closing it lightly behind him. He entered the classroom, this time with all the necessary stationery and books with him. Lan QiRen didn't take note of who entered the room,

"Good morning, Sizhui, you're up earlier than usual" Lan Qiren glanced up, Sizhui's spot was empty, instead Jingyi greeted Lan QiRen.

"Jingyi!? Why are you here? You're never this early here, are you sick?" Lan QiRen was very confused, Jingyi never made it to class on time, let alone earlier, and the books were all right, even some of his other students messed up with what books to bring sometimes.

"No, I'm alright, just going to study a bit, ignore me if that's what you please"

Lan QiRen smiled

"Well, here are the announcements that were said yesterday when you weren't here, listen please, there will be a meeting with Zewu-Jun for every disciple of Gusu Lan, there will be a swordsmanship competition being held outside of Gusu Lan, and one student volunteers to go complete the training to become a sect leader." Lan QiRen looked at Jingyi, expecting him to not be listening, but he was listening.

"How long is the training?"

"3 years, I asked Sizhui, but he seemed unwilling. The other disciples are not good with their swords, which means that they aren't fit to become a sect leader. I don't know what to do."
Lan QiRen seemed very frustrated that no one was willing, even his best student, Lan Sizhui.

"I'll do it... if you want me to." Lan Jingyi's voice was quiet and calm, very different from his usual brash voice. Lan QiRen looked at Jingyi, expecting a smirk on his face, but came face to face with a cold face and solemn eyes.

"That'll be wonderful, thank you, Lan Jingyi. You will leave this evening, Zewu-Jun will finish his talk with everyone this afternoon, so get ready right now, you don't have to come to class today, so make sure you pack everything." Lan QiRen was very happy that Jingyi was willing to do it instead, maybe Jingyi really changed.

Jingyi made his way outside, but unfortunately, he ran into Sizhui along the way. Shui's face was very cheery and happy as if he never remembered the way Jingyi looked when he entered their dorm room last night.

"Good morning, Jingyi! It's so early, I can't believe you managed to drag yourself out of bed to get here, why are you going out? Breakfast is getting served right now, have you had anything to eat? You better not be going to hunt down more chickens."

Jingyi walked past Sizhui, not bothering to look at him, he could feel tears overwhelming his eyes, but he kept walking. He could feel that Sizhui was staring at him, but he didn't want to see Sizhui, he knew it would only hurt him more.

"Jingyi, Lan QiRen told me that you have volunteered to do the training to become the next sect leader. We did want to find some blood-related Lans to do the training, but no one seemed like they wanted to do it. We went to find SiZhui to see if he was willing, but he said that he wasn't willing to leave his loved one and best friend for it. What I never thought was that you would volunteer, you are a true Lan. I respect you for that, well, how about I bring you to pack up your stuff and we get ready to leave?" Zewu-Jun knew how hurt Jingyi must've been from last night, he knew about Jingyi's affection for Sizhui, but he also knew that Sizhui had someone that he loved already. They walked together in silence, it would've been very awkward for Jingyi to walk a 10-minute walk without speaking at least a few sentences, but this time, the silence seemed to be calming for Jingyi.

"Thank you, Zewu-Jun, but I think that I can pack up my stuff and then take them over to you later. Sorry that you had to see me when I wasn't feeling the best, I'll make sure to change my attitude and get ready to learn. I'll be going now." He bows and walks away inside of his dorm.

"How's he doing?" A stern voice floated near Zewu-Jun, he turned his head to see his younger brother with a worried expression.

"He's doing ok, sort of, I think he'll be fine. He deserves a break from all the hard work, he's going to enjoy the time they're learning about how to become a sect leader. He is a blood Lan anyway, he would be the perfect fit."
