Zeus's POV
Everybody cheered as Perseus and Annabeth kissed, symbolizing their forevermore marriage and love for each other. Inwardly, I snorted. They weren't the ones who defeated Kronos and the Titan army. They weren't the ones who freed the Hundred-Handed Ones and the Cyclops. And yet it was their who had more praise, not mine.
Aphrodite's magic was still holding me in the air, which confused me because lightning bolts were my power, not hers. And yet I couldn't touch her pink bolts, or even move myself around. But now, I managed to wiggle myself a bit free and flip around the barrier, causing my hand to stick out the bolts. Yes!
I reached out and grabbed the chair nearest to me, and it fell with a CLANG to the floor. Damn it! At least their attention were on the my nephew and his slave, and not on the rest of the guests. The smell of ambrosia drifted over to me, and drool formed at the edge of my mouth.
Scowling, I wiped it off. Focus on your escape. Thankfully, a metal bar was in reach, so I grabbed it and clung on, pulling myself to the ground. Sweat dripped off my neck and the muscles on my arm burned. Finally, the magic gave way and I pulled myself free, groaning as I hit the floor.
All eyes were focused on the stage, so all left was for me to escape this horrid place and with some persuading to others to help me, I'd finally get my immortality back. Easy peasy. I vaguely remembered where the Apples of Immortality were placed, so I decided I'd start there.
Cheers erupted again as Percy finally pulled back from Annabeth, his cheeks on fire and he grinned sheepishly, his blue-and-red eyes glistening with happy tears. Annabeth turned to the crowd as well, her lips puffed and swollen, though it vanished the moment she willed it to.
Now's your chance. Nearly tripped over my toga, I ran as silently as I could to the doors. Fortunately, they were unlocked, so I shoved the handle down and pushed through. Once through, I grabbed the closest thing I could find — a lamp and a bag — and rushed to the outside world.
The fresh scent of grass hit my nose and I inhaled it in. Sunlight hit my face at all angles. Pedestrians stared at me weirdly, possibly because of my outfit, but I snapped my fingers and managed to manipulate the Mist to make them look away.
Ripping my toga, I grimaced as my the fabric made a sickening noise as it was being damaged. But it was easier to run this way. I was kind of surprised that there were no guards, or that they didn't sense my disappearance, but who would put guards at a wedding, and I am the father of Hermes, former god of trickery.
My eyes turned into slits as I focused on my memory of the location of the Apples. The word west hit my mind, and I recalled something that looked like a garden. Well, at least I've got something to work with.
With that, and many other things that may await me, I started my journey to become a god again.
