Rebecca's POV

After the inspirational speech the apparent Rulers of the Universe gave, I realized that I may have encountered what they described before. One-eyed Cyclops's, giant hounds, etc. But they never attacked me...I guess it's because I was a mortal?

Zak's face had paled dramatically, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was on purpose. He had taken drama classes several times a week last semester. I couldn't even tell if he was faking or not, he was just waaaaaaaaaaaaay too dramatic.

The pair walked off the stage and the principal stepped on and took over. He ranted about the rules as always, but I was staring at the Rulers. The boy was cute, I had to admit, but he looked way too much like Poseidon was described in the books for my tastes. Plus, he's taken already, and I'm not lesbian.

But the girl...blond hair, grey eyes...way too much like Aurelia, Zak's sister. I wonder if that's just a funny coincidence, or the Queen did it on purpose...because I've definitely seen that face before. And I'm going to find out why, whatever it takes.

But for now, I'll just focus on school. Apparently there are new classes now, on fighting, self-defense, mythology history, etc. I think self-defense is pretty cool, then we wouldn't have to worry about muggers anymore.

It was free time after the principal dismissed us, so I headed off to outside and found a nice, big tree with a shadow under it. Sunlight faded away as I walked into the trees space. My throat groaned with thirst, so I unscrewed my bottle of water and chugged it down.

"Hey." I turned around to see Zak's sister, Aurelia. She had a curious look on her face but she quickly wiped it off. I frowned but waved it off as nothing. "You're Ze-Zak's friend, right?"

"That's me."

"Well," she gave me a small, sincere smile, "since your friends with my brother," I noticed she exaggerated the word 'brother', "I suppose I should give you a chance and be acquaintances with you. What do you say?"

I pretended to think. "Oh hell to the no! I simply cannot be friends with my other friend's sister or their other family! There can only be a trio of friends! And I will cut off all of Zak's ties with you because I simply can't accept the fact that y'all are his family!"

Sarcasm at its finest. But Aurelia seemed to be living under a rock, because her grey eyes flashed with surprise and she backed away from me, nearly tripping over air. I cocked my head to the side and she scrambled back even further, then stopped.

"You know, you could've rejected me nicer," she snarled. "You could've just said that you didn't want to be friends with me, and you're sorry, but you had to go that far? Bit-"

"Woah, woah, woah!" I waved my hands around like a maniac, and I could've sworn mist swirled around my palms. "Haven't ya heard of sarcasm? I mean, it's my second language so if you wanna be friends with me, you gotta live with it."

Aurelia blinked. "That was sarcasm?" Her tone made it clear she was confused. "Does that mean...sarcasm is meaning the opposite of what you say?" I could literally see the gears in her mind turning. She was probably thinking, Gotta add this to my list of knowledge.
