Diana walked into the Hub, feeling the atmosphere completely changed. Everyone being looked at by doctors, people trying to fix parts of the ship that had been destroyed. She spotted Kara sitting at the table trying to hide her tears. Diana sat down next to her and took her hand. Steve and Stark walked into the Hub and sat at the table with Kara and Diana.
"These were in Phil Coulson's jacket. I guess he never did get you to sign them." Fury tossed a small stack of Captain America trading cards. Most of them were covered in blood. Kara put her head down and silently cried. "We're dead in the air up here." Steve reached out and picked up one of the cards. "Our communications, the location of the Cube, Banner, Thor... I got nothing for you. I lost my one good eye. Maybe I had that coming. Yes, we were going to build an Arsenal with the Tesseract. I never put all my chips on that number, though, because I was playing something even riskier. There was an idea, Stark knows this, called the Avengers Initiative." Kara lifted her head when she heard the name. "The idea was to bring together a group of remarkable people, to see if they could become something more. To see if they could work together when we needed them to, to fight the battles that we never could. Phil Coulson died still believing in that idea. In heroes."
Stark stood from his seat, stone-faced. He stood there for a moment, then walked off.
"Well, it's an old-fashioned notion," Fury said.
"I could've stopped it," Kara spoke. "I was there, I saw it happen. I wasn't fast enough."
"Kara, this isn't your fault," Diana said. She put her hand on Kara's shoulder. Diana's phone started vibrating. The name "Star" flashed across the screen. "Sorry, I need to take this." Diana stood from her seat and walked into the hall. "Hello?"
"Mom, I have a uh.. small question."
"What is it?"
"Where do you keep the fire extinguisher?"
"Star, what did you do?" Diana groaned.
I accidentally let out a beam in the kitchen, and now the curtains are on fire."
"Star.."
"I know, Mom. I'm sorry. Please just tell me where it is."
"Check the pantry."
"I did, it's not there."
"Did you check the shed?"
"Hold on. I'm checking now." Seconds of rustling and grunting later, Star comes back on the line. "I got it! Thanks, Mom!"
