By Alena Leikela
I always knew love,
as surely as I knew
I wanted to be a poet.
Deep within these margins
are my unspoken bouts of affection,
unrelenting, unrequited
why was I willing to die for,
a brick wall?
That man is gone now.
I always knew love,
as surely as I know
this bicolored expanse of
human dwelling.
Deep in the lumpy mattress
portion of my brain
I can envision time passing
and time passing with meaning
in every second.
Someday, somehow
we will discover each other
He will be perfect
his affection incessant, invariable,
and able to pour upon me
all his colors.
Irradiant yellow
The Necessary warmth
Of his devotion
providing life
the same way as the sun does.
I always knew love,
it just doesn't know me yet.
