Luz held Amity close, the two snuggling on the grass. They sat on a non-descript hill, the sun beaming on their faces. Their school bags abandoned beside them. Luz was lying on Amity's lap as the golden eyed girl leaned against a tree stump and read some textbook.
"Do you think she'll be back?" Amity asked softly.
"Even if she does come back, we'll be ready." Luz said snuggling closer. She rose up and planted a soft kiss on Amity's cheek, then glanced at her watch.
"Gah! We're going to be late for practice!" Luz said scrambling to her feet.
"Why did we agree to join the team again?" Amity asked rolling her eyes as she stayed in her spot and closed her eyes. Her body relaxing against the wood.
"Boscha asked me to join until her lung's could take her being an athlete again. Then you demanded to return to the team so I wouldn't die." Luz replied pulling Amity to her feet. "Then Boscha named you captain since you have experience, while she became the new team coach."
"I still can't believe Boscha would step down and agree to not play until the end of season." Amity said as she reluctantly grabbed her things.
"Well, the doctors did say if she wasn't careful she might have to wear oxygen masks for the rest of her short life. So I guess that's a good reason to be careful." Luz said scratching her neck anxiously. "I mean, her life spans already decreased, if her lungs take more damage she could get worse. Or be in a hospital forever, or not make it to graduation or..." Luz began rambling as Amity grabbed her hand.
"Boscha didn't have to run into that fire, you can't blame yourself." Amity said pulling Luz closer. Trying to calm her human down. Amity gently stroked Luz's head.
"Yeah she didn't. But she did, I can't help but feel like I have to do this. At the bare minimum." The reply was riddled with guilt. Luz held Amity closer, unsure if it was okay to continue. Luz's mind filled with worry, as Amity turned red from sheer gay panic.
Amity's scroll began to ring, the tone breaking the two girls apart.
"Where Are You!" Boscha yelled from the other end. "Practice Is In Five Minutes! Our game against GLANDIS IS TOMORROW! GET DOWN HERE!" Each word was louder and louder.
"Stop yelling its bad for your lungs!" Willow yelled from behind Boscha. Then the sound of fighting was heard from beyond the scroll.
"We'll be there soon." Luz yelled into the scroll from behind Amity. As she collected the last of their things.
"I can See you from the field. RUN!" Boscha screamed. Amity could imagine Boscha was fending off Willow with one hand while screaming into the phone with the other.
Rolling her eyes, Amity hung up then squinted at the Grudgby field far below her. She saw an angry pink haired figure shaking its fist at her. The small blob cursing her for hanging up.
"All ready!" Luz said from behind her. The human was carrying two bags, her once scrawny arms now riddled with muscles. With a smile, Amity planted a quick kiss on Luz's cheek and took her bag. Before they made their way towards the Grudgby field. The two girls holding hands the entire walk down the hill.
