Onceler's POV

I have lived in this magnificent forest for about a few days now, having made friends with the bar-ba-loots, swomee swans and humming fish - nearly killed them. However we're all even now since they tried to "float me far away", according to Lorax. But it has gotten a tad bit boring around here, I just wish I knew somebody who shared the same interest as I do, singing. Yes yes I know there are the humming fish that "sing", but I want to hear words - they hum! I began to give up hope until I came across a magnificent singer on one beautiful day...

I decided to have a walk around the forest, have a little break since I've worked so hard to create my Thneed. The soft, cool breeze and the boiling sun was a perfect match for this weather. The sky as blue as the ocean, the luscious emerald blades of grass slowly swayed in the wind. I took a step outside and smiled, breathing in the fresh air and beginning my small journey.

I hummed a light, bouncy tune as I made my way around the forest, I gratefully accepted Pipsqueaks truffula fruit which he gave. They tasted like plums, the skin was smooth and soft like a peach. I took a bite, wonderful flavours and juices filled my mouth, slightly dribbling down the corners. I quickly wiped the sides of my mouth when I heard a voice somewhere, this grabbed my attention and I followed the direction of where it was coming from.

As I got closer I began to make out what it was, I heard a woman, singing in the (soprano/alto etc) vocal range if I was correct. I practically jogged to where the voice was and came to an opening in the shape of a circle, the trees surrounded the girl who sat on the grass, drawing I think, from where I stood I could make out that she had (h/l) (h/c) hair and wore a (f/c) dress with black shoes. I stayed where I was, listening to her angelic voice. I came closer and coughed to grab her attention, she squeaked as she rapidly turned around, my knees felt weak when I saw her beauty.

Her (h/c) locks framed her face perfectly, creamy (s/c) skin and striking (e/c) hues. She smiled and looked down
"I apologise, you scared me" she chuckled, I straightened my posture and smiled at her
"No no, my fault.. your singing was beautiful by the way!" She looked to the side and smiled, cheeks turning pink as she waved her hand dismissively

"Oh stop it, it was horrible." Her beautiful eyes stared into mine, I began to walk over to her
"No really! It was amazing! Way better than me" I stated, sitting in the grass next to her. She gave me an interested look
"You sing too?"
"Yeah, have you sang with bar-ba-loots or humming fish, amazing back up vocals" I stated with a smile.

We sat in a thick, awkward silence, just staring at the forest scenery in front of us
"What's your name?" She asked
"Onceler, weird name I know, I didn't choose it" I joked, she giggled
"And yours?" I tilted my head at her
"(y/n), (y/n) (l/n)" she stuck her hand out, which I gladly shook
"Beautiful name for a beautiful singer" she smiled and covered her cheeks with her hands, looking away timidly.

I chuckled and laid back, my back pressed against the emerald blades and I gazed into the blue sky above me. I heard a little ruffle next to me, turning my head I noticed (y/n) laying on the ground next to me, she looked so.. peaceful. She sighed and closed her eyes with a relaxed smile, the wind and the soft sway of the truffula tree tufts were the only sound we heard.

I didn't realize I was staring until she brought it up
"Take a picture, it'll last longer" she joked, opening her eyes and gazing into my sapphire ones. My cheeks began to heat up slightly, I chuckled and scratched the back of my head nervously.
"Sorry.. I couldn't help it, you're so gorgeous" it was her turn to get shy, her eyes widened slightly and again she looked away, cheeks heating up from my compliment.

Again we fell silent, but the silence was more comfortable, I glanced over at her when I heard a soft hum come out of her mouth, I recognised this song and began to hum with her. Our soft hums were smooth and in rhythm, mixing together finely. I continued the humming as she began to sing the words, I clicked my finger to keep beat with the song. I looked over at her, her eyes were closed as she faced upwards while singing, I smiled gently and felt butterfly's in my stomach as the voice in my head told me she was the one..
