*Fox's P.O.V*
Skullora(or as I often call her Frosty) has been my best friend for over five years now.I know that is not even a blink of an eye for an elf,but then again neither is a few hundred years.
I often worry about her,she can be very wild, reckless, and sometimes even a little bit of a smart ass(ok...maybe a lot of one).
Which was why I was very concerned when Firestar informed me that she was left alone with a male stranger. What I find even more peculiar is that she trusts him,Skullora does not trust any one(besides me of coarse).I am sure she has her reasons, but I know not to ask.
The last thing I would want her to do is to have some sort of horrible flashback. What ever happened to Frosty before the guards found her had to have been horrific,it's hard to forget the sound of her screams at night. She never talks about it but I think she has horrible nightmares, some times she even yells things like 'please don't leave' or 'I'm sorry' normally fallowed by sobbing.
Frosty has changed my life from the day she arrived,I would die for her and I know she wouldn't think twice about doing the same.My father says that she is a 'bad influence',in someways he is right...What can I say, she is the Loki to my Thor, and I will love her even if she is adopted(ok...so maybe she isn't my adopted sister but she might as well be).
I should probably tell you about when she was dragged into my life and maybe explain the whole 'Frosty and Thunderhead' thing.I have nothing else better to do and Moon is doing great on her own....
It was the first morning of spring and the world was starting to awake from its winter long slumber.
I had been awake hours before the sun even dared to show its sleepy face, just like any other day.
I was with my father Elrond, you may know him from countless stories through out MiddleEarth's history.
Any way...he was giving me my daily history lesson in the garden. As I remember it,that day was about the rings of power.
"Three Rings for the Elf-kings under the sky,Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne in the land of Mordor where shadows lie."
This was as far into the lesson he had gotten before a guard interrupted our meeting. He was in such a hurry that he almost tripped over the roots of an ancient tree.
"My Lord you are needed at once.A child has been found on the mountain pass,we fear that she will not make it unless she receives expert care immediately!"he said hastily.
Elrond sprang to his feet and fallowed the messenger with great speed.I decided to tag along, hardly anything happens around here so I did not want to miss it.(For those of you who do not know,my father is a healer)
We arrived at the place of healing to find a young girl with curly dark brown hair lying on top of one of the beds. She was shaking violently and clinching her stomach, obviously in serious pain. She wore clothing like I have never seen before. Her shirt had many symbols that I wasn't familiar with; such as a hammer surrounded by blue lightning, what I thought was some sort of yellow and red severed head, and a red white and blue circular object with a white star in the middle. In the center was the word 'MARVEL' written in bold white letters.
There was no visible wound or bleeding so I thought this may have just ate some poison berries and Father assumed the same.
"Do not worry Fox,I have healed worse."he said confidently as he ruffled my hair,"So pay attention my child, for one day you may fill my position."
I had seen Father heal hundreds of people from all races,so this was nothing new to me.
Father attempted to remove the girl's arms from her stomach,it seemed to be the place of the problem's origin.
"NO!Don't touch me!"she yelled as she balled up even tighter.
"I am here to help you,I promises you are in good hands."he tried to assure her."I do not deserve help, please just let me die!I have already caused so much pain, let me feel it for myself!"she pleaded.
Father let her go and turned to me with a worried face."Fox,please be a dear and go get the guards,I will not be able to do this on my own."
I knew he only wanted me gone so that he could talk to her on a more personal level.
Before I left I heard him say,"Every living thing deserves a second chance. Tell me child, what have you done that deserves such sever punishment?"
Of coarse I did not hear that part of the conversation. I doubt that she told him anything, but if she did, I know Father would never speak of it.
I did as I was told and brought back help,as I remember it,it took seventeen guards to hold her down.
When she was finally secure Father lifted up her shirt, apparently he had gotten just enough information out if her to know that this was no stomach ace.Instead it was a deep horizontal cut,it looked very similar to the would a worrier would revive from falling on his own sword. The cut looked fresh, but again, there was no blood.
Father opened a bottle that contained a clear elvish medication that is commonly called 'the water of the falls'.It heals wounds almost instantly and creates a cool sensation, much like running water, the best part is that the medication is painless.
When he poured the liquid over the wound the girl let out an agonizing scream and crimson blood oozed from the center. This was not suppose to happen...
Father turned to me with the same worried expression as before and spoke hastily in elvish. "There is defiantly dark magic here, Fox I am sorry but I have to ask you to leave my dear."
I nodded and headed back to the gardens,or at least that was what I lead Father to believe. Most of time I am very obedient, but I have always heard of dark magic and wanted to see it for myself.Such things are hardly ever brought here.So I climbed up a near by tree and hid in the thick leaves.
I heard Father say,"Send for Gandalf the Grey,I have never seen anything like this he may be able to help. I fear all I can do now is keep her comfortable, but if we do not act soon the girl will parish."again in elvish.
Father quickly rapped the wound and ordered the guards to release her.She immediately balled up again, this whole time her eyes had been shut almost as if she was afraid to open them.
"I shall leave you here to rest,I have dulled the pain. I promise you will be fine."he said with a peaceful smile before heading back to find me.
Curiosity is one of my weaknesses, most of the time it gets the best of me.
So instead of just walking away(like I was told)I climbed down the tree and inched toward the open window.
For a moment I watched the strange girl with a great sense of pity.It was horrible to watch another living thing suffer in such a way.I wondered how she could stand the pain, she didn't even cry.She only lied there and clinched her stomach.
"You don't have to stare at me like I'm some sort if dead bug that you found on the side walk,I am half way expecting you to poke me with a stick."
She startled me.There was no way she could have known I was watching her.
She was facing the wall and there was no mirrors,it still puzzles me to this day.
I cocked my head to the side, and as if she knew I was confused she said,"Yes, I am talking to you she elf. It's Fox right?"I nodded, assuming she seen that as well.
The girl cursed loudly as she brought herself into sitting position and pulled part of her hair over half of her face.I just happened to notice her pointed ears that looked to be pierced at least three times. Then she opened her eyes, they(or at least the one visible) was the most beautiful blue I had ever seen, they shined brightly and reminded me of stars."That's an interesting name...I like it!"
I politely smiled and thanked her, then I asked her name, that is when she busted out laughing.(Fallowed by more cursing, laughing is really painful when you have a stab wound in your stomach. Not that I would know,it is just what I have heard.)
Of coarse I have never head someone cuss that much before and it made me blush, which made her want to cuss more.
"Hell I'm sorry...I forgot elves are
sophisticated.Shit where are my damn manners.Uhh let's see...I'm trying to think of a name that isn't a nasty phrase in a different language,how about Skullora...yeah that'll work."
I walked through the door way and crossed my arms,I had heard the name before..."Skullora...it means fire tamer, correct?"I asked.By now curiosity had over whelmed me and I had to know more.
She smiled slyly,it was a face she made often, mostly when she was about do something that would get her into trouble. But this time it was different.
"Smart girl, somebody give her a sticker!".This time I was comfortable enough to giggle,I was confused and did not know if she was trying to make me laugh or she was just being a smart ass...turns out it was a little of both.
"Well Fox,are you just going to stand there and let me do all the talking,or would you like to sit down and have a conversation?"Skullora asked with raised eyebrows, gesturing to the spot beside her."I can sit."I replied eagerly.
So I sat down on the bed, ready to ask more questions.
"How exactly might one tame fire?"I asked curiously.
"Fire really refers to dragons...you can't really break it down into steps,it just sort of happens."
I shuttered at the word 'dragon',the first thing I automatically thought of was Smaug. It was ridiculous to think someone could befriend a vicious, man eating furnace with wings."I do not mean to sound rude but dragons are horrible creatures! Why would you want to tame one?"
She raised her eyebrows, giving me a look that said 'do you really want to go there'.I dropped the subject and didn't think much more about it.
"Ok...so what race are you from? You have the pointed ears and senses of an elf,yet you are short and you have the colorful vocabulary of a dwarf...Are you half and half,or are you something else? "
Skullora laughed warmheartedly."To be honest I'm not sure what the hell I am...For now let's just say I am a nerd."
"Hmmm,"I said thoughtfully,"I can not say that I know what you speak of. May I ask one more thing?"
She smirked,"You just did,but I'll let it slide,so hit me with it." "What is 'Marvel',and the symbols, what do they mean?"I said gesturing towards her shirt.
Skullora grabbed both of my shoulders and an overly exited smile spread across her face."It's story time!"
She started from the beginning and told me the glorious tales of Thor, Ironman,Captain America,Hulk,Black Widow,Hawkeye, and last but not least...Loki.I loved how they all tied in together and I was dying to know more,of coarse she was more than happy to answer all of my questions.
She has created a monster and it was too late for me to turn back now.
She later said that this is how fangirls are born,it is a beautiful process that ensures you will no longer have a social life.
After that I could understand any Avengers reference, and she promised that she would show me the movies.
We talked all through the day and a little into the night before Father found me.At first he had planned to scold me,but when he seen that Skullora's mind was taken off the pain he allowed it.
Of coarse she lived and I later found out that dragons are amazing creatures. We became best friends quickly and life in Rivendale was a lot more interesting.
I taught her elvish and many other things about our culture.I also taught her how to shoot a bow,but she already knew how to weald a sword.
Because of me she knows her way around MiddleEarth better than the back of her hand.
Skullora taught me about music from her world, ear buds and this magic device called an iPod.Because of her I know every single Imagine Dragons' song. She also taught me about Cosplay, which we were both eager to try,and we did.
When Hallow's Eve came around we decided to dress as Thor and Loki, she was going to be Thor and I was more than happy to take the place of Loki.
We went all out helped each other make the costumes, using real gold, silver and leather. We even went so far as to build our own weapons.Skullora enchanted a hammer so that it would actually conduct electricity and I had my own staff(although I couldn't use it due to the fact that I have no magical abilities). She took it a lot farther than I could and bleached her hair, the whole set up seemed awkward.
We had everything set accept the helmets,Father had sent out our measurements and designs to one of his dwarf friends,a few weeks later they arrived. But the measurements had been switched, the Loki helmet was too big for me and Skullora could not fit her's over her head.So we decided it was no big deal and switched costumes.
The hammer seemed to fit more naturally in my hands and I liked the short feathered helmet a lot more.
Skullora was more balanced holding the staff and the big horned helmet suited her well...she also looked a lot better with black hair.
The longer we wore the costumes the more we realized how alike we were to the real characters. It didn't take me long to start flipping tables and yelling 'ANOTHER' instead of politely asking for more.I also found that hitting things with a hammer was a lot more fun than before.
Skullora also took to her role naturally, she mastered the art of illusions and was able to quickly switch from 'a snarky little shit who you just want to hug even though they would probably stab you' to,'the emotionally unstable and insane guy in the corner who has a smile that is creepier than hell'.
I mean sure I have received countless shameful glances from my father, and Skullora sometimes scared the hell out of little kids...but it was just all fun and games.I will admit that we do get too carried away...It's almost as if the helmets have fried our brains.Once we even got into a fight, not some sort of cat fight,a real one that became physical fast.
That day a group of travelers that consisted of a hobbit,a wizard, and twelve dwarfs were in town. Two of the younger dwarfs,Filli and Killi, made bets on who would win.Neither of them made any money because it was a draw and no one was hurt, but they were really impressed by our fighting skills.
We both agreed that fighting your best friend in costume was fun,so I had an idea that Skullora immediately agreed to.From that point on,every year around Hallows Eve we put on a spectacular show,it has a pretty good plot line and all the trickery and fighting you could ever ask for.Of coarse the fighting is not real,I have spared with Skullora before and I would not want to be the person on the other end of her blade.
To make a long story short that is how Frosty and Thunderhead were born...
I think I see Firestar landing,I hope she has found Skullora and this mystery guy,I just hope that he isn't some kind of criminal...that's the last thing she needs.
