Janus was fine

At least that was what he always told himself. His life had been hell from the moment he has manifested and the other had realised what his exact purpose was. He had been running and hiding for as long as he could remember, deceiving his way into a false scene of security.

He was fine.

Currently he lay hidden under the couch in his snake form, he could hear the light sides talking to each other in the kitchen, probably talking about things that didn't matter, like what they were going to have for dinner. Where as he was never ever really sure if he was even going to get a meal today. The light sides were most going to have a large feast today to celebrate their victory, which brought Janus back to why he was in this mess in the first place. Usually he would be hiding in a random room in the mind palace as far away from the main sides living quarters and in the more I know and unstable rooms in Thomas' mind, but because of the surmise that had happened this morning that was no longer possible.

Janus has been sleeping under a small blanket in a room a bit too close to the main hangouts of the light sides for comfort. The only reason he was even staying in there in the first place was that that room was where he had his stash of food, which mainly consisted of stuff that wouldn't go off any time soon. He has been slumbering peacefully in his human form -he still hasn't figured out how to hold his transformation while sleeping which he absolutely despises- when the door slammed open and the light sides had stormed inside. Patton has looked disgustingly hopeful, as if their success did not lead to terrifyingly unknown consequences on his part. Logan looked calculating, it was most likely him who had used his smarts to find his position in the mind palace. And Roman, oh Roman looked absolutely gleeful, even though the idea to hunt Janus down was originally though of by  Patton, as his purpose obviously fell on the wrong side of his black and white view of morality, Roman was absolutely ecstatic to have a Villian to capture, and said villian was on the run cowering from his pathetic good or bad view of the world.

And although it sounds backwards when he thinks about it, Janus is glad that he had been in the room that held his food supply. For if they were not congratulating themselves on their find they probably would have reacted faster to Janus jumping out and sprinting out the door, starting an erotic path through the mind scape in an attempt  to loose them.
If they had been just a bit faster then he would have been as good as dead.

So now he was hiding under their couch, slowly calming himself and getting his breath back from running across the mind scape.

All he had to do now was wait until they went to bed and in the morning they could start their game of cat and mouse all over again.

Finally, he thought they would never leave.
Their meal had lasted much longer than it usually does, he could smell the food from his space under the couch and had been reminded all over again just how hungry he was. Keeping his snake form up for so long was exhausting as well, if the light sides had found him now, he wouldn't been able to escape at all.

He slid himself out from under the couch and lay limp on the carpet, reverting back to his human form.
He lay there for another few minutes before slowly dragging himself onto his feet he started walking through the mind palace, his footsteps falling silent with practiced ease. The first place his visited was his room, the door had been brutally taken off its hinges and the room itself lay bare, the only thing left were the furniture which the light sides couldn't remove.

He room had been the first thing to go in this war off attrition.

He remember the event as clear as day; he had been laying one his bed peacefully, his lights had been turned off and the only source of light was the glow in the dark stars that had been stuck on his ceiling. He was listening to music, he can't remember the song exactly, but it was a happy song, the notes bouncing happily as the light sides barbed into his room and grabbed him.
He was taken by complete surprise, but soon fought back with tooth and nail. By some miracle, he managed to escape their grasp, fleeing his room and and entering what life was for him now, something a kin to the hunger games.

He was still standing outside the doorway of his room. Normally sides could summon anything they wished as long as they were in this room, but Janus with his room ransacked and his powers blocked by deep blue chains, was unable to summon anything.
He sighs, thinking of what food he would've summoned first if he had the ability to do so.
Janus continued on his walk down the mind palace corridors. He did this when ever he could to keep the layout of the mind palace fresh in his mind in case he ever needed to escape into a cluttered room or (almost) hidden passage.
There was no room that Janus could not get into.

Except for one.

It was down the corridor where it had happened, a scrappy brown door with hairline cracks from Roman attempting to bust his way in to explore this new room, but he wasn't able to. The room has been locked tight for as long as he can remember. Janus had no clue what was in there and he had no idea why it was locked in the first place.
But he did know that if he ever found a way inside, then it would be the most perfect hiding spot ever. Even Roman had given up trying to pry it open, and just settle Ming for a good kick every few days, furious that the door would not open for him.

Slowly Janus made his way back to the kitchen. The light sides had taken to locking the cupboards and fridge once they realised that was were he had been sneaking his food from, luckily these were nothing like the magical locks that logic had used on his room to inhibit his powers but just normal metal ones.
Janus slowly removed his lock picking tools from one of his many pockets, after years of being hunted down he had only a few prized possessions, these were one of them, allowing him access to the food he was denied.

With practiced ease he slowly opened the fridge door open, and quickly took a small portion of food that wouldn't be missed. He took a few pieces of cabbage from an already opened pack, a bit of left over chicken from last night, a slice of bread (he couldn't toast it, that would be too loud. He also to a few desperate chugs of apple juice, before watering it down to make it seem like none had been drank at all.
He didn't dare to even touch the jar of Crofters, Logan watches and even notes down the positions they were in to make sure that no one had taken any.

Not at all satisfied, but had taken as much as he dared, Janus made his way back into the depths of the mind palace, looking for a place to rest, hoping for a few non-eventful weeks.
