The whole team froze. There was no way this could be his kid. However, they were all surprised by what Lincoln said next.
"It's no wonder you look just like your mother."
"W-What? You knew my mother."
"Katia, my last name is Campbell. I met a woman named Vaya in college. I don't think it's a coincidence that you look just like her."
Katia felt like the room was spinning. This can't be happening. She had just met her long lost father under some very odd circumstances. He tried to hide it but Katia could tell that he was just as surprised as she was.
"Why... Why did you leave me?"
Lincolns' heart broke.
"I didn't have a choice. I was taken away because I had the Inhuman gene."
"Am I gonna be taken away too?"
"No. The people that took me don't do that anymore."
"Was it Hydra?"
"No."
The rest of the team watched them. Daisy and Simmons were almost teary eyed. Fitz and Mack were standing ther awkwardly. May didn't want anyone to know it, but she was overwhelmed with the emotions of this situation. Hunter just wanted to leave.
"So, now that we've got that cleared up..."
Simmons smacked his arm.
"Hunter!"
"Sorry!"
Lincoln sighed.
"Listen, I wish I didn't have to leave again..."
"I get it. You have an important job."
Lincoln grabbed a piece of paper and scribbled something down.
"If you ever wanna talk about anything, call this number."
"Okay... Dad."
She chuckled a little. It felt weird to say. Lincoln smiled right back at her. As soon as they left. She let out an exasperated sigh. Did that just happen? She once again, cleaned up the shards of glass on the floor and then changed the lights. By the time she was done, it was morning. She decided to turn on the news.
"SOKOVIA LEFT IN RUINS DUE TO ANOTHER ONE OF THE AVENGERS' BATTLES."
Katia sighed. She was used to this by now. She turned off the TV and went to her room. She was too scared to go back to sleep. Suddenly she heard the front door open. It had to be Natasha this time. Katia walked out to the living room. She was right. She let out a sigh of relief.
"Hey, Мама. How was Sokovia? Meet any hot guys? Get any souvenirs? Destroy any robots?"
"That's very funny. It was a shitshow basically."
"That's nice."
"Were you okay, being home alone?"
"Yeah. It was fine."
It was not fine. Almost the whole week she got nightmares. Not to mention what had happened the night before. But hey, what else is new?
Natasha knew that Katia was not fine. But she didn't pry. Last time she pushed for her to talk, Katia wouldn't come out of her room for days. Not even for food. They had ultimately come to a non verbal agreement to pretend that nothing had ever happened.
"Hey, so... I think we're gonna move to the New York place. It's just closer to the compound and everything."
"That's fine... There's something else you wanted to say isn't there..."
Natasha sighed.
"Yeah. I just wanna let you know... You can tell me anything-"
"Oh, not this again."
"No, you didn't let me finish. You can tell me anything if you want to. But it seems like you don't want to. But it's not going to help if you don't have anyone to talk to so..."
Natasha pulled out a little black book from her bag. Katia looked at it.
"That's a book."
"No, it's a journal. That way, you can have someone to talk to, without actually talking to anyone."
Katia sighed. It's not the worst idea... But if someone finds it, and reads it... Oh, who are we kidding? No one comes over anyway. And Katia trusted Natasha with her privacy.
"Fine. I'll write in the book."
And she did. She wrote everything in the book. There was a whole five pages on... 2014... Katia definitely liked the book. She was still working on her response to nightmares though. Sometimes she wouldn't eat, sleep, or talk, for days after a nightmare. She would either be too scared to come out of her room, or was too busy writing about it. She even wrote about that night when her powers over reacted. She also wrote about her birth father.
As for then number that her father gave her... She texted it every so often. Not much though. Once he had her number though, she would get selfies with the people at SHIELD, mostly the woman named Daisy (her dad's girlfriend who was really nice). She would always see the pictures, but almost never answer. That was enough for Lincoln though.
After a month or so, they moved to the New York house.
2016
Katia was now 15 years old. She was very advanced in technological sciences, and the arts. She spent most of her days in her room studying, or doing combat training. She had even managed to kick the punching bag off it's chain a few times. Also, since it was New York City, no one really suspected a gunshot (as sad as that fact is), so she could do target practice. She was also getting amazing at that. Shoon she built up a training routine for every single day.
She would wake up, make a smoothie for breakfast and change into her athletic wear. Then she would go upstairs and do strength and endurance workouts. Then she would do some drills with a punching bag for a while. Then she would warm down and go downstairs to study. Then she would do agility, and flexibility training. This is usually where she would push herself the hardest. Her agility was her secret weapon when she was younger and she had to make sure that she didn't get rusty on that skill. Finally, when Natasha would finally get home, she would spar.
Usually, she would practice on the punching bag while she waiting for Natasha to get home and then Natasha would try to surprise attack her. Most of the times she didn't see it coming, but this time she was ready. While focusing her punches on the bag, she focused her senses on the rest of the room. She heard the slightest creak in the floor boards behind her and immediately turned around. Natasha was there. She threw a kick, but it was caught and Katia was flipped over on her back.
Natasha helped her up.
"How was work today?"
"Good. Mostly training with Wanda. Not a lot of missions this month."
Katia knew all about the other Avengers. Natasha would talk about them a lot after work.
"That's nice."
"So, there's an advanced highschool nearby..."
"No."
"Katia..."
"I don't need to go to school. I can teach myself at home!"
"Look, you don't even have to make friends, okay? It's important for you to at least be around other kids your age."
"Even if I did agree to this, the school year already started."
"So you can say that you're a transfer student or something."
"Remember the last time I went outside for more than two hours?"
"Yeah, except you won't tell me what actually happened."
"I really have no say in this, do I?"
"Not at all."
