I couldn't respond as Mrs.King spoke. "God, if my husband knew I was here he would kill me and then you." I didn't say anything at that one. "My husband has seem to run away." Relief, mingled with confusion swept through my body. "He disappeared last night leaving me with the house and the guards."
I needed to ask. I couldn't help myself. "Have you heard from him?" She bites her lip and my heart pounds. "He came by to see me three months ago." I nearly scream. Three months ago. What does he look like now? "He was looking for his father but he was in Mexico at the time." She takes my hand and I clench my jaw.
"I came here to warn you. My husband could be after you. I don't know where he is, or what he's doing." I grip her hand even tighter. "Thank you." Rose and Kristen exchange another glance. I couldn't read this one this time. "Do you think he will come back?" Mrs. King gently removes her hand from mine. "I doubt it."
My world crashes down and I nod. "I have to go before he knows I'm here. It was nice seeing you again Ava." She kisses my forehead and Rose and Kristen walk out with her. I don't have the courage to eavesdrop but it wasn't hear to listen. "How bad is it girls?"
Rose was the first one to answer. "When Camille gave her to us she wouldn't eat, sleep, drink, move. Nothing it was like she was brain dead." Hearing Camille's name sends a shock wave through my body and I shudder thinking of that day. "It was a two days before she drank some water. A week before she ate. A month before she spoke."
I wince hearing the pain in Kristen's voice. "And when she did speak it came out in broken whispers as if she forgot how to speak. It took another week to get a full sentence out of her." Rose sighs. "It took us a whole year to put her back together. Her parents came home and she had begged us not to tell them what happened."
"We didn't and now she has a system of good days and bad days." Mrs.King sighs. "I'm afraid that this might take a tole on her." Kristen speaks up. "Mrs.King is he coming back?" I throw my hands over my ears and curl up in a tiny ball on the chair. I didn't care to hear the answer.
I had no idea how long I was sitting there like that. It felt like hours. Rose put her hand on my shoulder and Kristen rubbed my back. Rose crouched down in front of me and tried to speak to me but I muted her voice. It was so loud in here. I miss him. God, I miss him so fucking much.
