"Ma'am are you okay? Ava dear?" The paramedic shinned a light in my eyes as another checked my skin. I looked around expecting him to be gone again but no. He was being carted in another ambulance. "I'm fine. I just knew the person that lived there. I wanted to make sure they were okay."
"Alright well you don't even have shoes or, a-" The lady was cut off as Luke came running with Zach right behind him. "AVA!" He shouts. "I'm fine." I mumble hopping down and landing on the hot pavement. I keep walking as Luke talks to the paramedics. Zach walks along with me.
"I seen him." I blurt out. Zach looks surprised. "How did you handle it?" I shrug and sit in the passenger seat of the car I came in. "I didn't." I don't elaborate on the subject. Luke swings open the divers side door. "I can't fucking believe you right now. You could have got mother fucking killed? Do you know that then I would have been fucking dead and my baby would have never fucking seen me again?"
I roll my eyes. "Hunter would kill you."
"Like FUCK he wouldn't." I sigh and rub my head. "Ava, you are so incredibly stupid." Luke drives like a bat out of hell with a tight jaw and slitted eyes. "Give her a break Luke." Zach's voice gently floats up from the back and I cross my arms. We pull into my parents drive way. I step out of the car and wince at the hot pavement on my bare feet.
Hunter's face was still running through my mind. His face was stunned when he saw me. His head was bleeding and there were so many cuts and bruises. He held a gun in his hand and started making his way over to me. But I started moving the other way. I wasn't ready.
I spent so much time looking for him, I wasn't even prepared to find him. Now he was right in front of me. In a hospital somewhere. I stalked up the stairs to my room and slammed the door in Luke's face who was still cursing me out for running off. I struggled with the zipper on my dress but eventually pealed the fabric off my sweaty, ashy, bruised, and cut up body.
I ran a bath and sank down in the suds. It was over. He was dead. My eyes began to flutter shut. I checked the clock. I had been in the bath for nearly an hour and I had no idea. I stumbled out of the tub and dried myself off while draining the almost blackened water. I stood in front of the mirror stark naked yanking o it the snarls in my hair.
I then stumbled over to my bed and curled under the covers still naked. I was too tired to care.
