The buzz of adrenaline had long since left Ash's body, leaving her in a physical, emotional, and mental state of distress.
She's going to die.
She's going to be with her parents. With Smith, Finn, everyone else they had lost along the way.
But she won't be with Bellamy.
Her head rests on Kane's shoulder, the two silent as they lose themselves in their minds.
Lincoln, who sits across from them, doesn't let them get too far. "I am not letting you two give up," he says fiercely.
"What's done is done," Ash murmurs, happy with the way things went down.
But then the door to the cell opens, Pike and all of his guards armed heavily walking through. Ash's eyes find Bellamy's first, taking in the bags under his bloodshot eyes and the way he looks completely out of order but at the same time closer to the Bellamy she loves.
And so she smiles at him, glad that this would be her last vision of him before she would meet her fate.
Kane, however, seems sad at the interruption of their time. "I thought we had more time."
"I'm not here for you too," Pike says as his eyes shift to the innocent Grounders put in lockup what feels like weeks ago. "Each of you is guilty of the same crimes as Ash and Kane, and as such, you will share the same fate, death."
"Chit ste em saying?" One grounder asks, never having learned English. (What is he saying?)
"Nou get yu daun," Lincoln assures her, eyes on Pike. (Don't worry) "My people are innocent. They know nothing. Don't let them suffer for my crimes."
"Our crimes," Ash corrects.
"Sir," Bellamy says quietly. "They're right. All the others did was run through an open door. Same thing we would do if we were there."
"I believe that's true. Kane, Ash, Lincoln, Sinclair, as the leaders of the coup, you will pay for your crimes with your lives. Execution at dawn."
When done talking, Pike and his guards leave the room, only Bellamy staying behind with his heartbroken eyes on Ash.
The said girl turns her head to him, fear in her eyes but face stone. "Still think you're on the right side?"

The day had long gone and the night itself is almost over, only hours until Ash Growins's fire would burn out as her body would touch the soil.
A part of her is scared the closer they get to the moment—her survival instincts despite everything trying to kick in once more—but the other part has just accepted it.
"It could have worked," Lincoln says quietly. Like Ash, he seems to have accepted his fate as well, no trace of fear anywhere on his face.
Kane, however, seems to still want to fight as he stares at a symbol that had been burned into his upper wrist. Ash guesses that it is the symbol of them becoming the thirteenth clan.
He sighs as he runs his hand over the raised skin. "Death can be unity too. We don't break. We don't show fear. The people will remember."
Bellamy will remember.
