I roll my eyes. Conan and Gavin have been arguing for a half hour now. Finally, I'm fed up with it, and I stomp over to them. "Could you two, please, shut the fuck up?!" I snap. "Take this outside so I can-!"
"Connor!"
I whip around, pissed, ready to snap the head off of whoever this is when I see Colton rushing towards me. He's blue faced and clearly flustered as he hugs me. "C-Colton...? What's wrong? Why are you here?"
Conan comes up behind him and hugs him, wrapping us both in his arms and providing silent comfort.
"It's Caius!" he whines. "He- I- We did- We almost- Ugh..." he struggles.
"Look, I'm stressed, and I've had my fair share of being awake, and I'm ready to go home. I'm going home. I'll take you with me," I sigh. "We can talk about this in the car."
Hank hands me his keys. "Let's go."
"I'm coming," Conan adds.
"Whoa, whoa, you hold on, tin man," Gavin snarls. "We haven't finished talking."
"Yes, we have. I don't care anymore. My brother needs me more than you do." Conan dismisses Gavin with a wave of his hand.
"Wha-? No! We still have shit to do! You can't just leave!" Gavin protests.
"Why do you want me to stay?!" Conan snaps. "I thought you hated me!"
"I do! But, you're not leaving me here to do all the work by myself!" Gavin snaps back at him.
"Ok, how about you come to Hank's house, and you guys can go at it there?!" I butt in. "Because, we're leaving, Gavin! We're leaving! And, I'm not leaving Conan here just to have to come back for him!"
"Fine!" Gavin crosses his arms over his chest.
I stalk away. Conan and Gavin are going to be the end of me. Colton clings to me, holding my arm with both hands.
I get into Hank's car and sigh. Conan and Colton pile into the back. Hank starts the car and drives away.
One look out of the rear view mirror tells me that Gavin is following us.
"What happened?" Conan asks in a quiet voice.
"I... Caius showed up at our house. I-I-He took me to a gay club to, you know... explore. See if I was actually gay or.. whatever. And, then..." He pauses and takes a deep breath. "We went to his house. In his room. He wanted to explore. He wanted to see what we like and what we don't like. He wanted us to help each other explore, and I agreed, but... it went too far. He wanted to fuck me, and I got scared cause I knew it would hurt. And.. I panicked. I walked all the way here. I just didn't wanna go home and be alone."
No one says anything.
"Well..." Conan begins. "I... don't... know what to say."
"Then, don't say anything," Colton mutters.
The rest of the ride is silent.
We walk inside in silence. Gavin pulls up, and Conan sighs. "I'm never going to sleep at this point..." he mutters. He waits for Gavin, then leads the man inside. They immediately begin arguing.
Colton sits on the couch with his head in his hands.
I don't know what to do. I've never had my best friend sexually explore me. I look to Hank, but even he shrugs helplessly.
Cassius bursts through the door. "I'm hooooome!" he sings. "I had the best day ever!" His smile melts when he sees Colton. "What's wrong..?" he whispers.
I can barely focus over the sounds of Gavin and Conan arguing. "Hold on." I stalk into the kitchen to see Conan poking Gavin in the chest. "Shut the fuck up!" I snap. They fall silent and stare at me. "Cassius is here." I turn and walk away.
"Cassius?!" Conan pushes past me and hugs him. "You're alive!"
Cassius pushes him away. "Of course, I'm alive!" he whines. "Geez..."
Gavin stares at Colton. "What's up with him?"
Conan bristles. Before he can say anything, Colton bursts into tears. "I-My best friend!" he sobs. "He-He wanted to ex-plore together, and-and it was really fun! But-But, my stupid, b-baby self ran-ran away! And, he-he probably hates me!" He covers his face in his hands. "I-We were so close to-! And, I-! I got scared!"
Gavin kneels down so he's eye level with Colton. "Hey," he murmurs. "Look at me."
Conan bares his teeth and steps forward, but I hold him back. One look at me tells him to not take another step.
Colton meets Gavin's gaze.
"Who's this friend of yours?" Gavin asks. He smiles warmly up at Colton.
"C-Caius."
"How does Caius make you feel?" Gavin tilts his head to the side.
"He makes me feel... weird. But, in a good way. I felt good when he touched me. We kissed!" Colton hugs himself. "And, he tasted so good. I want to do it again, but..." He looks away.
Gavin nods in understanding. "I'm certain Conan has told you about how mean I am, but, I promise, I'm not a complete asshole."
I glance over at Conan. He looks guilty as he stares at the floor.
"N-No... Conan hasn't told me anything about you. I don't even know who you are." Colton leans away. "Should I know about you?"
"I'm Gavin. I'm Conan's partner." He pauses before his eyes widen. "I-I mean, not like that! Not like that! We're just business partners. That's it."
Conan seems to draw into himself. I wonder why this conversation has such an effect on him.
"Look, Conan doesn't matter right now. What matters is you and Caius. And, I've been in your position before." He pauses for a second. "It's... not easy. I understand why you're so stressed."
"What did you do...?"
"Me? I liked him, and he liked me. If we liked each other, then why hold back? Why deny myself of something that I obviously want? I didn't care if it was homosexual or whatever. I didn't care that we were supposed to be just friends. I wanted him. So, I went out with him," Gavin explains, shrugging.
"Are you still with him...?" Colton asks in a shaky voice.
Conan tenses up next to me.
"No."
Conan visibly relaxes in relief. What's gotten into him?
"We broke up a year ago. I don't know... he changed. He wasn't the same guy I fell in love with. He was... different." Gavin looks away. "I don't really wanna talk about it."
"Ok..." Colton nods. "What should I do?"
"Well, first, you need to calm down. You can't even begin to make decisions when you're a sobbing mess," Gavin begins. "Then, you should just.. think about it. Do you want Caius?"
"I-I don't know..." I admit. "I think I do, but... he's a guy."
"So? Aren't you gay?"
"Y-No. Maybe. Sort of." Colton covers his face in his hands. "I don't know! I don't know if I like dick..."
"Have you never sucked a dick? Never even touched one? I know you've never been fucked, but that's besides the point."
Colton shakes his head.
"Ah, shit. Fuck. Ok." Gavin scratches the back of his neck. "Well, you'll never know if you're really gay unless you... I don't know, suck a dick at least."
"Who's dick can I suck?!" Colton cries. "I'm related to these people!" He groans in anguish. "I'll have to... ask Caius if I can suck his dick. He'll probably let me..."
"Look, you're thinking about this like it's a disease. You're approaching this like it's a mental illness, and you need to find out if you have it or not." Gavin crosses his arms. "There's nothing wrong with being gay. You know that."
"I know... I-I can't defend myself." He looks away. "Can I... Umm... I don't know. Keep in touch with you? In case I need... help?"
"Sure, but Conan won't be happy," Gavin laughs. It seems like a lighthearted joke, but we all know what he's alluding to.
"Why would Conan not like it? It's not his business." Colton sends a look Conan's way.
"It's nothing. I just... I don't know. I don't like Conan, and he doesn't like me." Gavin shrugs as he puts his number in Colton's phone.
"Why not? I mean, I don't like it when Conan acts like my dad, but I still love him. Why do you guys hate each other so much?" Colton asks.
Gavin sighs softly. "Fuck's sake..." he mutters as he stands. "I just... I dunno! I don't know why I hate Conan." He turns to the Android in question. "I just don't like Androids I guess. Plus, he broke into my house, assaulted me, told me to kill myself, and refused to leave when I asked him to. I have a right to hate Conan."
"Conan!" I look over at him. "You did the opposite of what we wanted you to do! What the fuck?"
"Relax, Connor. I don't even care," Gavin grumbles. "No Android is gonna tell me what to do. I'll be fine. I'm not even mad anymore."
Conan says nothing. He just holds his upper arms, caving in on himself. "We should get to work, Detective," he mutters.
"Sure." Gavin walks back into the kitchen.
After a second, Conan follows him.
Colton looks after them. He stays still for a few seconds before getting up and walking to his room.
Cassius coughs to get my attention. "Is no one going to ask me how my day went?"
"How was your day?" Conan asks as he sits down at the table.
"Well, it was amazing! It was my first real day, and It was so much fun! At first, I was nervous, but Cody really helped me feel at home!" Cassius walks into the kitchen before he takes his shirt off.
"Why are you taking your clothes off?" Conan winces. "We have a guest!"
"I am not taking my clothes off! At least, not all of them. I'm hot, ok? Geez." Cassius rolls his eyes. "Anyway. The head server's name is Cody. He's so nice! I spent, like, the whole day with him. He taught me so much! Tomorrow is my second real day. I hope I remember everything. I spent the whole day surrounded by RK900s that are nothing like you, Conan." He smiles happily. "And, I have no objections. If every one of them was like you, I'd probably die from annoyance."
"Thanks, Cassius. Glad to know you love me," Conan mutters.
"I do love you! It's just.. you know, you're kind of annoying when you go into super protector mode, and you don't let anyone do anything unless you're 100% sure it's safe. Like, I get that you don't want anyone to die, but... you really need to let me figure things out on my own."
Conan stares up at him.
"Wow, that's funny. How come you never protect me?" Gavin interjects.
"Because, I-I don't..." Conan huffs in distress. "Look, you can't stop me from wanting to keep you safe. I can't even stop myself. It's just natural. But, if you insist that I don't worry about you, then I'll try not to."
Gavin laughs quietly.
"What?"
"Nothing. Just..." Gavin stares at Conan from under his lashes. "Nothing."
"Whatever." Conan blushes a bit.
Cassius shrugs and walks up to me. "How much you want to bet they fuck tonight?" he whispers.
"Cassius!" I giggle. "Ten bucks."
"Ten?"
"No more." I cross my arms. "I've made my decision."
"Fine. Ten, it is." Cassius walks away.
"Your siblings are starting to be too much for my old bones," Hank complains. He sits down on the couch, and I sit next to him.
"That's why you have me to keep them in order," I murmur before pressing my face into his chest. "I love you."
"I love you, too." Hank strokes my hair.
"Asshole!" Conan laughs. "I hate you!"
I look over to see Gavin and Conan leaning over the table to get closer. "It's a pokey stick! I was never gonna let you kiss me!"
"You're not supposed to break it!" Conan protests. "Pussy."
"I am not a pussy," Gavin defies him. "You're the pussy."
"No way. You suggested we play this stupid game, and then you chickened out." Conan smirks at him. "You're scared."
"Look, this game is stupid anyway. I just had some in my car, and I thought it would be fun." Gavin leans back. "We have work to do."
"Covering up how much of a pussy you are with your work? That's very characteristic of you, Detective," Conan teases him.
"You're not gonna let this go unless I kiss you, are you?" Gavin sighs.
"Nope. You got yourself into this mess."
"Fine! Fine." Gavin laughs to cover up how nervous he is. I can tell. He pulls out another pokey stick. "One, then we get to work."
"Ok," Conan agrees.
Gavin puts the stick in his mouth and leans over the table. Conan leans into him and takes the stick in his mouth. They inch closer. I can see their faces lighting up as they get closer and closer. I watch as their lips finally meet, and they kiss passionately. Conan brings his hand up to push Gavin into him.
Gavin pulls away. "Ew," he complains. "You taste like plastic."
"You taste like sweat," Conan fires back at him. "You liked it. You were into it."
"No way." Gavin shakes his head. "It's time to work. Don't mention this. Please."
"If you say so, Detective Reed. I won't say a word, but I'll never forget that." Conan looks down at his notes with a little smirk on his face.
Gavin stares at him. Some emotion I can't see flashes across his face before he looks down and starts studying the notes he took.
I look away. I lift my face up to meet Hank's. "They are fucking," I whisper.
"Looks more like they're teasing each other. Looks like they have some stuff they need to work through," Hank observes.
"I was joking," I murmur. "But, yeah, looks like they're struggling."
We sit and watch TV, cuddled close to each other. Hank's strong arms wrap around me, holding me close to him.
After a while, Gavin's voice trickles in from the kitchen. "I'm so tired of sitting."
"We can lay down on the floor or something," Conan offers. "I don't care."
"Yeah. Let's do that." They bring their papers into the living room and drop them on the floor. Conan sits down, and Gavin just throws himself onto the floor.
"If you two start arguing, I'll throw you out," I threaten.
"We won't argue," Conan assures me. "Right, Detective Reed?"
"Uh huh," Gavin mutters.
After a while of silence, Conan leans into him. "Detective," he hisses. "Let's play a game."
"If it has something to do with kissing or touching you, I'm out." Gavin glances at him.
"No, no! Let's tell each other secrets about us. I'll go first." Conan rolls onto his back. "I hate you."
Gavin rolls over and ends up rolling on top of Conan.
Conan giggles as he pushes him away. "Ew, I don't want your sweaty body on me!"
"It's my turn, shut up!" Gavin giggles. "Ok, so, I absolutely loathe you. Like, you make me wanna throw up."
"Yeah? Well, you make me want to shove my head in the toilet and drown myself."
"I like someone. I think."
Conan looks over at him in surprise. "You're not gonna tell me who, are you?"
"Nope."
"Asshole," Conan laughs. "Whatever. I don't even want to know."
I can tell he's lying.
They fall silent. After a while, Gavin turns on his side and faces Conan. It takes me a minute to realize that he's asleep. Conan, very much awake, looks over at him. He kind of stares at Gavin for a minute before rolling over on his side, facing him. Conan blinks at Gavin's sleeping form, then scoots a little closer so their legs are touching. He keeps his arms pressed close to his stomach as if he's scared to accidentally touch the human. Gavin, sensing Conan's warmth, scoots closer with a soft groan. Conan stares into space with wide eyes. He looks terrified, but he soon swallows and closes his eyes, quickly putting himself to sleep.
I look up at Hank, and he nods. They'll hate each other in the morning, but at least they're quiet right now.
Hank picks me up and takes me to the bedroom before laying down. I cuddle into him, allowing myself a small huff of relief before I fall asleep.
