Nurse Louis Tomlinson
Dr. Harry Styles' POV
We all looked at the monitor, waiting for the cue that she was completely asleep, so that we could start this rigorous procedure.
It wasn't really rigorous but she had a brain bleed that I have to fix before it causes permanent damage, and we cannot have permanent damage.
"She's asleep." Liam said, as he began intubating her.
We had gotten Jasmine all set up and in the right position.
I saw my initials on her neck as I made the incision right next to it.
I opened her up and saw that her intracranial pressure was through the roof.
I immediately needed to relieve pressure on her brain.
I needed to remove all this blood.
I tried to drain as much as I could before I removed part of skull so that blood could easily be removed.
As soon as I removed part of the bone, I saw her brain was beginning to swell.
"Shit."
Now I have to remove more of her skull, while not damaging her brain but also relieving pressure so that the brain can swell freely and have it be less constricting.
I waited for a few minutes as I watched to see if the swelling went down, before I closed.
Her intracranial pressure went down, but there's no improvement on the swelling.
How could I be so stupid and not get all of the blood.
I thought the drain would fix it, it looked like it fixed.
I thought it did.
She was fine.
All I did was get a scan, and there was just so much blood around her brain.
I would've never knew how much pressure there was on her brain.
I just hope that her brain swelling doesn't have any permanent damage but we won't know until she wakes up.
Her brain swelling went down by a millimeter and her intracranial pressure is dropping which is good enough to close, but she'll have to be heavily monitored.
I'll have to have Louis watch her while I do some stuff in my office.
I closed her up, doing my famous stitches to have a minimal scar.
"Can someone page Nurse Louis Tomlinson to her room, please." I said as they moved Jasmine back onto a gurney and took her to post op.
"Hey, Harry, where are you going?" Liam asked me as I went to go scrub out.
I looked at the blood on my gloved hands.
I usually don't mind blood, you get used to it after so many brain surgeries.
But this is Jasmine's blood, on my hands, on my gloved hands.
The woman that I've grown to admire, I just did brain surgery on, and I hope that she doesn't have damage because of my mistakes.
"Just some stuff I have to do." I responded as I went to go scrub out. I ripped off my OR attire and gloves and threw them in the trash.
"You know she's going to freak if you're not there."
"That's why Louis will be there."
Liam followed me to the scrub room.
"Mate. I know you. I saw those scans, I was monitoring her ICP the whole time. She'll be okay."
"Well you don't know that, Li. I missed it the first time. It's all my fault."
"Harry, this isn't your fault. She'll wake up fine. You know how long it takes for hematoma symptoms to arise, and she didn't have any symptoms. You were lucky enough to be doing a brain scan and realizing that there was a bleed. She'll be okay. Go take a walk to clear your mind and then go see her and see that she's fine."
Liam gave a comforting shoulder squeeze before walking out of the scrub room.
I took a deep breath and then scrubbed out.
I needed that.
I just need to go take a walk and then go see that she's okay.
She'll be okay.
She just has to be careful and be monitored.
