I hope you never lose your sense of wonder,
You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger,
May you never take one single breath for granted,
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed,
Prom night didn't go exactly as planned. With your heart broken and tears staining your face, nothing was alright. Really, everything was wrong and terrible.
You stood on the sidelines, watching the others writhe in the mass of sweaty bodies, feeling isolated from the rest. Everyone else was enjoying themselves to the fullest, dancing along to the music and swinging their hips back and forth. You wanted to lose yourself and forget about all your problems with them, but you couldn't bring yourself to.
Moronic, but that was what you felt.
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean,
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens,
Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.
Vibrations shook the ground and it seemed as if the speakers' volume had increased. You stood up, shakily heading away from the party and the flashing lights. Your feet shuffled towards the entrance to the garden, and soon, the cold air greeted you. You closed the door behind you, ridding of the stuffy heat from inside.
With your hands tightly wound around yourself, you moved towards the nearest bench.
I hope you dance....I hope you dance.
I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance,
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Livin' might mean takin' chances but they're worth takin',
Lovin' might be a mistake but it's worth makin',
Don't let some hell bent heart leave you bitter,
When you come close to sellin' out reconsider,
Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.
You knew it had been less than thirty minutes, but you felt as if you had been confined to the bench your entire life. Goosebumps dotted your arms, the result of staking out in the cold air. Your shivers seemed to echo throughout the greenhouse, bouncing off the walls. You ceased your useless chatters, wishing to attract no one. What was the point of hiding away if you couldn't even keep quiet?
Why were you hiding in the first place?
Why didn't you leave?
What kept you there, all alone and in the dark?
"[Name]" You stopped breathing, your head swiveling around to greet neatly cropped hair and bushy eyebrows. Erwin seated himself next to you, his gaze never lifting from your face, never breaking the electricity connecting the two of your eyes, your [e/c] ones meeting his pale blue ones.
"Yea," your muttered reply earned a silent chuckle from the man.
He looked away, as if ashamed of his inaudible amusement.
"Dance with me."
I hope you dance....I hope you dance.
I hope you dance....I hope you dance.
(Time is a wheel in constant motion always rolling us along,
Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder where those years have gone.)
It was a simple statement, but one that held your heart and shattered it into a million pieces. Your pupils widened; he flinched. Erwin Smith, president of your student council, took out his hand.
You nodded slowly, unaware of your actions, and took it.
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean,
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens,
Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.
The two of you started off slowly, hesitantly acknoledging each other. In a mere five minutes, you were heavily embracing each other. You had finally found the safe haven you sook and he, willing, provided it. Silently, with the exception of your breathing, the two of you held each other. You felt whole and complete because, finally, you learned to dance.
Dance....I hope you dance.
I hope you dance....I hope you dance.
I hope you dance....I hope you dance..
(Time is a wheel in constant motion always rolling us along
Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder where those years have gone)
