emotions were a hard thing to deal with and the fact they were supposed to be hidden, made them become visible even more. when valerie experienced the first few stages of having the switch flipped, she felt numb and almost extraordinary, she loved the feeling of not feeling anything. it powered valerie, it gave her the assurance she needed.
