3rd person view:

Mitchell woke up next to his husband one early morning. He kissed him goodbye and wrote him a note to tell him he'd be back soon. He changed into casual clothes and grabbed the handful of hyacinths he'd left on the table yesterday. Smelling them, he smiles. Still fresh.

Leaving out of and locking the door, he hops into his car and drives down the street. He parks in front of a fenced area. "Memorial Graveyard." Pushing open the gate he walks inside. He strolls down the cobblestone pathway through the graves. He's not looking at the beautiful sunrise in the distance, his mind is much too occupied to care. He's just carefully looking at the names of the graves, searching for someone's name.

Finally his footsteps stop in front of a certain grave. Unlike most of the graves around here, there were no candles, no decaying flowers on the ground from previous mourners. Well, except for the ones his husband and friends brought last week. Tears prick at his eyes as he crouches to lay the flowers on the ground.

He thinks for a second and then whispers: "Sleep well, knowing that you are loved."

His tears start to fall again. There is a pain in his chest that won't go away, that might never go away. A hand grabs his shoulder as he's crying. His husband. He also has flowers in his hand, some he probably just bought or picked. His face is grim, but he opens his arms and Mitch falls gratefully into them choking on tears.

"He didn't deserve it! He didn't!"

"Mitch I know, I know."

"I need you to promise me something."

"What is it?"

"Promise me that you won't forget him, and you won't just throw your life away."

"I'll remember him forever, I owe him, and I have you to live for."

"I think he would say 'you don't owe me anything'."

"I know."

"Hope he likes the flowers... even if he can't see them."

"It's about time to go Mitch."

"Okay... We can visit next week, right?"

"I promise."

Mitch lets himself get pulled away by his hand, offering no resistance. Looking back at the gravestone he sadly smiles. He whispers to himself:

"I cherished the moments we shared together, I will love you forever deep down in my heart."

"I'll see you next week...."

"Jake."

After that he sees a flock of dark winged birds flying through the air, and he swears he heard...

"I'll be waiting, Mitch."
