The Present, 2017
It's too late to turn back now.
The bell above the door rings softly as I enter, one of the waiters smiles and welcomes me warmly, I bow stiffly at her as I look around the interior of the somewhat quiet café. I force my feet to move as my eyes locate one of the more secluded booths, I sigh softly as I make my approach.
I clear my throat lightly as I quickly slide in the booth. He jumps slightly at my sudden appearance, I frown a bit as I look at his attire.
Decked out in a black bucket hat pulled all the way down over his huge sunglasses, and paired with a face mask, he kinda looks like a fugitive on the run. He removes the mask and sunglasses, then leans towards the table between us and smiles softly.
"You're here," I nod my head at him, "I thought you wouldn't show up."
I run my fingers through my hair with a sigh, "are you going to hold that over my head forever?"
He leans back with a chuckle, "can I get you anything?"
I then notice his medium sized cup of ice coffee before him, "I'm okay."
He stares at me with a small smile on his face, I furrow my eyebrows as I take in his appearance once more. His face looks a bit more mature compared to the last two times I saw him, I clear my throat awkwardly as our eyes meet.
"So how are you?"
I shrug my shoulders at his question, "I'm fine I guess. And you? Still traveling these days?"
He folds his arms, "don't you know who I am by now?"
I shake my head at him, "I saw you on TV once last year, I still have no idea who you are."
He frowns, "but you do, you know me better than anyone else."
I chuckle, "that's impossible, so what if we talked for a while when we met? You don't even know my name."
He gives me an amused look, "then tell me, mine's Song Minho or Mino, anyone you prefer."
I sigh in defeat, "Lee Hei Ryung."
He smiles at me, "you didn't even tell me you're Korean."
I roll my eyes at him, "you just assumed that I was a foreigner, so I went with it."
He nods his head at that, "well it's nice to meet you Lee Hei Ryung-ssi."
I tilt my head and look at him seriously, "you didn't call me here just so we could make small talk right?"
He shakes his head, "go out with me."
I chuckle humorlessly, "I don't want to."
"Why not?" his smile remains on his face.
"Do I need a reason?"
He nods his head, "I'm asking you because I really like you, and I want to get to know you more. Besides, don't you think you should take some responsibility?"
I raise my eyebrows at him, "for what exactly?"
He shrugs nonchalantly, "for my feelings of course."
I throw my head back as I laugh, "you're funny," I giggle a bit, "your emotions are your own Minho-ssi, I didn't ask you to have feelings for me."
His smile never leaves his face as he observes my every reaction, he pulls his phone out, and I watch as he types for a few seconds then look at me. I raise my eyebrows as I feel my very own phone buzz in the pocket of my coat.
